Description of 1939 Plymouth Other Road King |
It's rumored. Walter P. Chrysler chose the name Plymouth to exemplify "the endurance and strength" of the Pilgrims who first landed on the shores of their new world. Driving and looking at this P7 Road King pretty much mirrors this statement. Its well built. and certainly rugged. having survived 75 years of existence with who knows??. how many owners over the decades. Historically. I'm sure there are many rich and fun stories. Recently originating from a Estate. having sat dormant and in hibernation since its last known registration in 1993. (21 years) based on the antique plate affixed to it when I purchased and resurrected it. it represents an older in what appears to be a complete and average restoration. what appears to be a rebuilt 201 cubic inch L Head inline six cylinder engine. with a rated 82 horsepower. its starts. nbsp;runs and drives with no unusual noises. eaks. vibration. or smoke. Its transmission. with now the first year of steel cut gears. propels it nicely . and reasonably. uietly down the road. Its rich Aviation Blue finish is somewhat showing its age with some minor. almost imperceptible checking on the tops of the rear fenders. some minor bubbling on the lower valance below the bumper. nd three very small areas of bubbling to the two doors at the lower front sections nearest to the running boards. barely noticeable. The Road King maintains a solid unblemished frame. suspension. and most sheet metal overall. A consistent application of Carnauba wax has maintained its finish without any changes. Otherwise. the P7 is very solid. and in nice condition. showing very nicely as a respectable . river quality car. The Road Kings interior is in excellent condition. with no apparent rips or tears. Its glass is equally as nice with the exception of a approximately one inch crack at the base of the left rear window. All the controls function as originally designed. however the speedometer does not accurately represent the correct speed. however is fully functional. "No officer. I wasn't speeding. it read only 30 mph. " Translated: It's slow. The architecturally interesting" integrated" headlamps were the first year for Plymouth as was the statuesque front grill. giving it a unique. attractive. and graceful frontal appearance. Recent servicing includes a oil change with Pennzoil 10/30 with ZDDP additive (zinc/Phosphate). coolant flush (correct green). gear oil replacement. new spark plugs. points and condenser. complete chassis lubrication. four wheel brake inspection and adjustment and brake fluid flush (its hydroscopic) etc. I'm sure I left something out here. The P7 Road King is fitted with bias ply 3" whitewall tires with almost new tread. however they are older. but not cracked. It steers and tracks nicely with no apparent issues. clunks. noises. or unusual vibrations. In conclusion. as previously mentioned. please keep in mind this is a 75 year old car. not concourse by any means. but a highly respectable driver quality two door touring sedan which is simply a joy and a lot of fun to drive. The Road King will be sold as is. where is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is strongly suggested buyers inspect the Road King prior to sale. Expectations differ for everyone. and I wish to have a happy and satisfied buyer. with full disclosure following purchase.
