Description of 1979 Plymouth Other TC3

Up for sale is a nice 1979 Plymouth Horizon TC3 with just under 23K original miles. I purchased the car from the estate of the original owner who passed away. I have a copy of the original title from 1979. It was primarily used for short trips to work and to the store. I was told by the daughter of the original owner. It was garage kept. It was regularly driven until the mid 2000's and then basically sat in the garage and may have been started once in a while. When I first got the car. I changed the oil and filter. flushed out the radiator and flushed out the brake fluid. I happily drove it around for about 50 miles or so until one day it lost power. I then went on a mission of throwing parts at it to try to get it to run right. I went through rebuilt carburetor. rebuilt fuel pump. NOS (New Old Stock) distributor. cap. rotor. plugs. wires. ballast resistor. PCV valve. NOS computer. probably several other things I am forgetting. all to no avail. I finally narrowed it down to the fact that it would run well with the aspirator (catalytic converter check valve) disconnected. and poorly with it connected. I optimistically replaced the aspirator to no avail. At that point. I decided it is time for me to sell it. Here is a link to my saga: href=https://www. allpar. com/forums/threads/cutting-out-at-larger-throttle-opening. 158317 The car. overall. is very presentable. The paint is shiny and there are no major issues with the interior. Please check out the walkaround video for a thorough review of the physical condition of the car. It does run and drive. In fact. you could probably drive it home the way that it is now if you are very adventurous. but I don't guarantee you will make it since it has been somewhat unpredictable for me. I did put the original carb back on because my rebuilt carb had some linkage binding. It doesn't idle all that great now. but give it some gas and it will run and drive you just fine (see video of me driving it in its current state). I will try to adjust the idle before the auction ends. The biggest reason I am selling it that I do not know why it will not run right with the aspirator hooked up. It may be the catalytic converter. but I am not sure. I have gotten it 98% of the way to running like it should. but I have just run out of patience with it. If you had one of these back in the day. you know they are super fun to drive. but always seem to need some TLC. The shifter bushings were recently replaced and the car shifts fine. Clutch is good. and there are no unusual noises from the drivetrain. Engine is in good condition and does not smoke. Front tires have ½ tread and rear tires are nearly 100% however I don't know how old the tires are. They do hold air though. Overall it's a really nice car that is just a little elbow grease from being something you can take to a local show. I have a few extra parts that will go with the car. What else? The front windshield is cracked under the wiper blades. It's several inches across and would likely require windshield replacement in order to correct. I also put a rebuilt starter on it. The old starter was grinding about every 3rd start. and that has happened once with the new starter. The driver's door latch is a bit loose. but can be adjusted. I adjusted it once. but it came loose again because I probably didn't tighten it down enough. The battery and air cleaner are also new. The body is very solid. but there are spots of surface rust like in the wheel wells and quarters. I show more of this in the video. Few scratches and dings on the body. and a couple spots where surface rust was treated and touched up. When I had it out on the highway. there is a bit of a shimmy at 55-65 MPH no doubt due to flat spots on the tires and/or they are slightly out of balance. It still felt safe at this speed. Please review the videos for a virtual walkaround and test drive. This would make a nice drivable restoration candidate. There really are not many of these left. especially with under 23K miles on them. Please understand you are buying this car as is where is. no warranty expressed or implied. Although I believe it to be a good car. it is nearly 36 years old and anything can break at any time. Please ask questions and make sure you are satisfied with the condition of the car BEFORE you place a bid. You are bidding to buy. I welcome test drives and inspections by you or your mechanic. Driving Video Walkaround Video Running Issue with Aspirator On Dec-26-14 at 09:53:48 PST. seller added the following information:UPDATE – I think I have the idling issue sorted out. It is still not perfect but it is better than it was. I found a couple loose vacuum lines and pushed them back on. I just drove it about 15 miles and can say it is running better.  Again. not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. but a much closer approximation of the way it should run. On Dec-27-14 at 16:48:05 PST. seller added the following information:UPDATE 2 – Took it out for a longer drive on the highway. it seems to be running OK now On Dec-28-14 at 15:16:24 PST. seller added the following information:One final update. I put breather filters on it tonight (both on the air cleaner and on the end of the aspirator hose) and that may be contributing to it being a bit stubborn when I drove it tonight. but I don't want to have unfiltered air getting into the system. I would describe the behavior now as a bit odd. I think the original carb may be a bit finicky. As stated previously it is a bit unpredictable. but it starts right up and is drivable. but the idle goes from smooth to erratic depending on its mood. It will idle and run smoothly for a good while. then decide that it wants to jump up the idle to like 2000 RPM or 500 RPM and then after a while it will calm down again. I put the old computer back on it to see what would happen and it didn't change anything. It kind of "bucks" a little bit sometimes. Not all the time. just when it feels like it. If you like cars with character and personality. you will love this one! If you end up with this car. please understand that it will be a bit of a project - if I haven't cmade that clear enough yet :). If you know these cars. the issue may be obvious to you and you may already know the solution. I also wanted to list some of the extra parts that will go with the car: NOS computer. rebuilt carb (that possibly needs linkage adjustment). carb rebuild kit. a couple ballast resistors. new coil. coolant temperature sensor. distributor cap. the original distributor. the original aspirator valve. the original starter. Maybe some other stuff if I can find it. If ANYTHING is unclear. please ask me! Happy bidding!
