Description of 1966 Pontiac Le Mans

"Our every sunny day driver until sold, this is one nice and rare breed of 1966 Pontiac Tempest Convertible."

Comes with an originally installed "SPRINT 6"option with only 1500 ever produced making this a rare and desirable addition to this already popular convertible edition!

See the info at bottom about this rare engine.

Very good daily driver condition and has a nice loud CD player you can hear when the top is down!.

The car runs amazingly well! Starts, idles, runs, shifts perfectly.

No rust body from Florida, there is some surface rust and bubbling paint around front windshield frame on metal dash inside and outside under windshield trim. Floor pans and trunk and body excellent with all metal,no bondo that we can detect.

We had the bubbling around the windshield fix estimated including taking the window out and cleaning up the dash by a local body man at $650. Not a pressing issue as it is hardly noticeable, but should be considered in the future.

Comes with 15"Rally II Wheels, Cd player with great speakers loud enough to hear and enjoy with top down while cruising.

Comfortable white leather seats interior, customized by past owner to match white seats, not perfect, but really shows well.

Needs antennae but radio and all gauges and lights work as they should with exception of dash blinker lights, these are minor issues but for the sake of full disclosure we are mentioning them.

The blinkers work but you have to turn them off and on manually, the handle does not click back on its own.

This car was driven all summer on several long mile road trips at highway speeds up to 80 mph on a hot summer days with no issues whatsoever. No overheating, no smoking, no oil use, no drips!

"The response rate of this very special brain child of John DeLorean and designed by Malcom McKeller Sprint 6 engine is the most amazing I've felt in my 40 years of driving for a 6 cylinder."

Truly performs like a V-8!.

"1966 Pontiac Tempest GTO Le Mans DeLorean Sprint 6 Convertible Research":

With just around 1500 of these made, there are estimated to be just a couple hundred or less of these left in the world.

"DeLorean wanted to build a sports car powered by an advanced inline six, and he tasked engine designer Malcom McKeller with creating the motor."

The six-cylinder OHC-6 was standard in the Tempest and LeMans intermediates in 1966 and 1967, and it may have been slightly ahead of its time. During 1966 and 1967, all Pontiac LeMans models came standard with the 165hp OHC-6 version that developed 207hp 5,200 RPM and 228-lbs.ft. of torque at 3,800 RPM. Red-line for the Sprint 6 motor was set at 6500 rpm.

At 230 HP the Hi-Po Sprint engine was nothing to sneeze at, and some observers at the time felt that the lighter Sprint Tempest and LeMans offerings were more balanced and outperformed their V-8-equipped versions.

Dubbed the Sprint 6, in 1966, John DeLorean special ordered a limited small number of these high performance versions of the OHC-6 to be installed in just a few 1966 and 1967 Pontiac Lemans Tempest Cars.

This hopped up OHC-6 featured a high flow intake manifold, higher lift camshaft, and 10.5 to 1 compression ratio requiring premium fuel.

“Power increased from 165 hp (OHC-6) to 207 hp (Sprint 6), a sizeable 25% increase and making this one of the fastest 6 cylinder engines and cars ever made.”

Redline for the Sprint 6 motor was set at 6500 rpm.
