Description of 1979 Pontiac Firebird |
For Sale is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. This is a numbers matching vehicle with the original build sheet. This vehicle has had a number of things done to it within the last few months and now is within near perfect condition. When I received the vehicle it had spent the last few years in a gentleman's pole barn and had not seen much daylight. Upon inspection I found it was leaking exhaust through a crack in one of the exhaust manifolds and one of the rear leaf springs had started to crack which caused the rear of the car to sag. This Trans Am now has a brand new set of stainless steel Hooker super competition headers and a header back exhaust system from Pypes exhaust with an x-pipe and a set of street pro mufflers. I have the chrome tips (pictured). but they have not been installed yet. To fix the suspension issue I ordered the GT suspension kit from Pro Touring F-body. I have installed the new leaf springs. but the new adjustable shocks and front coils still need to be installed (pictured). During the header installation the dipstick was rusted into place and had to be removed. The original dipstick was damaged during the removal and a new chrome one has been added in it's place. It was also noted that exhaust was leaking out of the egr valve so a block off plate was added in it's place. The interior of the vehicle came with holes cut in the door panels where the prior owner had speakers at one time. When I received the vehicle the whole sound system had been removed. so I decided to install new door panels and armrests. I decided not to cut the hole for the automatic locks because I preferred the cleaner look. but you can see on the old panels (pictured) where they were located and all of the wiring remains to re-connect them if you wish. While the door panels were removed the original window motors were replaced with brand new ones. After 35 years they were starting to become sluggish. I also did not cut the holes for the manual window crank where the red and black circular firebird emblems were placed. I have those and they will be included if you wish to add them yourself. This car is factory equipped with A/C and heat. but both are currently not hooked up. The previous owner did not tell me why and I have not had time to check it out yet. As far as body and interior. there is a slight bubbling of paint on the hood (pictured) and a dent/scratch behind the passenger door (pictured). This car was repainted once in it's history. You can notice from the door jam it used to be the lighter "Atlantis Blue" and it is currently "Nocturne Blue". I would recommend replacing the headliner as well. It was sagging which is normal for a car of this age and it has currently been fixed with 3M adhesive spray. You'll also notice the left tail light seems to be crooked. It is missing two of the studs which secure it to the car. I have purchased another tail light with all of the studs and it is included in the auction. The last thing I have left to do is install the new carburetor. This car was newly tuned by my local race shop and after the tune the idle on the carburetor was all out of whack. Funny how those things work. anyway I have a brand new Rochester Quadrajet carburetor which will be included in the auction along with everything else pictured. The car runs and drives right now great besides it's high idle RPM. Considering that this is still the original carburetor it is to be expected. The picture of the dyno run is included. You'll see it topped out at 174 hp and 259 ft/lbs of tq. That's just how these cars were built and is still better numbers than you'll see on any Trans Am with a Olds 403 and stock exhaust. In addition to the parts mentioned. within the past few months this vehicle has received the new parts and service listed below:-Spectra Premium radiator-Water pump-Dipstick-(4) P255/60R15 tires -XS Torque starter-Spark plugs-Spark plug wires-Distributor cap-Thermostat-Top end gasket-Valley pan gasket-Intake manifold gasket-Rear end gasket-Engine block flush-Rear end flush-Transmission flush-Trans filter-Battery-Timing checked and Dyno'd-Misc vacuum lines/hosesAll of the old original parts and the new parts that have not been added are included in the sale. I have more pictures if you would like to see anything else. Everything that you need is included in this auction. This is an amazing vehicle and I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a thumbs up or head nod while driving around town. You will notice that I am located in Wisconsin. Don't worry about the vehicle. it is safely inside and away from our wintertime elements. The only reason that I'm selling is that I have another project to start working on and selling the Trans Am will allow me to start my next project sooner. Please send me a message with any questions you have. I am willing to help the buyer with shipping arrangements. |
