Description of 1971 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 |
We are very pleased to offer this freshly restored 1971 Formula 400 4-speed at eBay auction. With only 1860 Formula 400 Four-Speeds produced in 1971, these cars were very rare to begin with, and are now becoming almost impossible to find without paying stupid $$. With that in mind, we have set a very reasonable reserve price, and will be happy to consider offers for a Buy-it-now option. This car was specifically built to be my personal driver / show car, but I've decided to auction it in order to finance other projects this winter. The restoration on this rust-free beauty was completed in the spring of 2016, she is absolutely gorgeous and a blast to drive, turning heads everywhere we take her. This car runs and drives beautifully, the Hurst 4-speed shifter goes through the gears smoothly, the new quick-ratio steering box is tight and easy to steer, and with brand new springs and suspension bushings, the car drives straight and handles tightly and smoothly. With A/C delete, console delete, and manual steering, this car is a time capsule that epitomizes the muscle-car era of pure, no-frills performance with an absolutely stunning appearance. I'm sure that I'll miss some things, but here is a description of the car and a partial list of the work that was done; REAL 1971 Formula 400, VIN is 226871xxxxxx 100% rust free Texas car, we did not find ANY significant rust on the body panels, floors, or trunk. The body was media blasted to bare metal, then primed and painted with PPG Jet black basecoat and 4 coats of Hi-Gloss PPG Concept clearcoat. A final color sand and polish left an incredibly smooth, deep black shine that looks like you could drown in it. Pictures can't do justice, you need to see the car in person to truly appreciate how spectacular it looks. Lots of new chrome and emblems, with original chrome and bumper showing like near-new NOM Pontiac 400 block, roller rockers, mild cam with correct 1971 #96 heads, very stout, starts immediately and runs great. Full dual exhaust through original manifolds, sounds fantastic New 4-core aluminum hi-capacity radiator HEI billet distributor w/ MSD 6AL ignition controller and Blaster coil New control arm bushings New sway bar bushings New front shocks New rear leaf springs New rear coil-over shocks New outer tie rods New quick ratio manual steering gearbox and rag joint New Prothane body bushings throughout Posi-trac rear end New master cylinder and power booster New front disc pads and lines Rebuilt rear drum brakes with new wheel cylinders and shoes Holley double-pumper carb with Electric fuel pump All new soft seals - doors, windows, cowl, trunk Custom seat upholstery (front and back) Custom door panels New carpet New package tray New sill plates New windshield New Mickey Thompson Sportsman SR tires on new polished aluminum Anson Slots by American Racing Console delete A/C delete Known Issues; The speedometer reading is slightly off due to the bigger tires, I have not bothered to change the speedo gear. The dash shows well, but does have minor cracking / damage in a couple of spots. Headliner is in great shape, but could use a re-stretch to take out some wrinkles. Side glass has minor scratching, nothing severe. We have not installed a stereo or speakers. While I've done my best to provide a complete and accurate description of the car, please keep in mind that this is a 45+ year old vehicle, and may have mechanical or cosmetic defects that are not listed. The pictures in this auction are part of the description, and should be considered as such when making your bids. We consider this to be one of the nicest '71 Birds out there, but opinions do vary, so we highly encourage you to inspect the vehicle prior to bidding. We will work with you or your inspection agent in any way possible, however, all sales are final, so please arrange inspections, financing, etc. prior to the auction ending. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. I will be happy to assist the winning bidder with setting up shipping if you'd like, we use a shipping company out of Texas that does a great job and typically can give us lower rates. Due to previous issues, zero feedback bidder need to contact me through eBay prior to bidding, or your bid will be canceled. I will only accept PayPal for the initial deposit. Final payment by bank wire, cash, or verified cashiers check must be received within seven (7) days of the auction ending. Vehicle will not be allowed to leave our premises until cleared funds are in hand. If you do not have the money, PLEASE do not bid and mess up my auction.
