Description of 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am GTA

Rare one owner 1989 Pontiac Trans-am GTA that has not been modified and is factory original. The car was purchased NEW from Broadway Cadillac/GMC in Oakland, CA which was also a Pontiac dealer in the fall of 1988 (is now the location of a Whole Foods Market).

We opted for the smaller 5.0L (305 ci) because we wanted the fun you can only have by being able to manually shift through the gears with the power that this car has.

If you wanted the fun of the manual trans you had to settle with the 5.0L (turning 225hp) due to the high torque of the 5.7L with the manual transmission causing the frame to twist with the T-Top. Thus Pontiac made sure that all the 5.7L cars were equipped with the auto transmissions, so the larger engine was not available with a Manuel transmission. Keep in mind however that the 5.0L created 225HP when paired with the Dual Exhaust System (options code N10) which our Trans-Am has. Not only that, but the amount of torque with the 3.45 rear end pins you to the seat with plenty of power from the 305ci.

I have included a picture of the Service Parts Identification Label which is attached to the inside of the console that gives you all the options breakdown of the 1989 Pontiac Trans-Am GTA. You can check the options code on our car by simply going online to www.gtasourcepage.com/89RPOFigures.html

Of the 8465 production Trans-Am GTA’s made in 1989, only 366 were equipped with the five speed manual transmission, this is one of the 366 and probably less then 5% are a one owner car in this good of condition in Sept. 2108.

The few parts that have been replaced are the alternator, battery, power antenna motor, and the heater core. Our local GMC dealer replaced all of the fuel injectors at around forty-thousand miles. The rear spoiler has a slight split which is conducive to the composite material the rear spoiler is made of (a common problem with the spoilers in the Transam), however the car comes with a Brand New fiberglass reproduction spoiler which was purchased from Kebbuck LLC (newperformacheparts out of Tracy, CA) and has never been taken out of the carton it was shipped in. Kebbuck LLC have a great reputation for manufacturing fiberglass parts for all makes of cars and trucks, the value of the spoiler alone is $550. The spoiler is primed and ready to be painted. The paint on the car is original and still has a very good shine due in no small part having being garaged it’s entire life. There is some fading on the roof next to the T-tops and along the top of the rear fenders. The car comes with a Pontiac Trans-Am Factory Bra. I will include a cassette tape which you can plug into you iPod or iPhone and play your favorite tunes through the fantastic factory sound system. The Fulda Quantum 245/50ZR16 tires are brand new with less then 3000 miles. This collectible 30 year old car has only 47K miles and has never been raced or abused. The car runs as great today as it did the day we purchased it. The car is kept in a climate controlled garage and is never driven in the winter. Rust is not a problem as the car has never driven in snow or ice in Indiana. When we moved to Indiana from California the car was transported via professional car carrier..

The Black Leather interior is in perfect condition as you can see from the pictures and looks as nice as the day it was purchased.

The car has crossed the threshold of a classic and is a great example of a car 30 years old that looks like it was built yesterday. The only thing that would make the car look perfect would be a paint job, however some collectors prefer that the car keep the original paint job so I have opted to leave that decision to the second owner to make.
