Description of 1984 Pontiac Trans Am

1984 Pontiac Trans Am 5.0 with T-Tops and 5-Speed Manual

This is a great original survivor car and is a lot of fun to take out! I've had it since 2020, and it's been very reliable—always starts up without issue. As of this listing, it has 28,388 original milesand is in really good shape for a 40-year-old Trans Am. I believe it's the original paint, and it looks good overall for its age. The interior is in great shape with no rips or tears, making it feel like a time capsule. The original radio was swapped out sometime in the early 2000s, but that appears to be the only modification.

I have two sets of keys, the owner's manual, the window sticker, and some other documentation (like original sales slip, warranty card, etc) to go with the car. It's always been garage-kept and placed in storage during winter.

Recent Maintenance Done
  • New Battery (2022)
  • New Tires (2022)
  • Replaced dash bulbs (2020)
  • New front grille inserts (2020)
  • New Belts (2021)
Quick Details
  • Engine starts up and runs well. Does not have cooling/overheating issue.
  • 5-Speed manual transmission shifts smooth.
  • Clutch and brakes are good.
  • Lights all work including the popup headlights.
  • No cracks windshield/windows and both side windows roll up & down.
  • No cracks in dash or other interior panels. Seats, leather steering wheel, passenger side pouch, etc all in great shape.
  • Wheels are is good shape, not bent and no curb rash.
  • Fan/Heater work well.
  • Locks/handles/doors all work well.
Known Issues
  • The paint/body looks good but shows its age with some chips, scratches, and minor rust under the hood and rear window quarter panel/channel (see pictures). The battery pan is rusted (likely from water sitting under it).
  • Windshield washer sprayer does not work.
  • Battery gauge does not work.
  • AC stopped blowing cold air last year.
  • There is some engine oil seepage. I'm not positive where it's coming from but it seems like it's somewhere up top. It's leaked since I've owned it and hasn't caused an issue or gotten worse. It has around a nickel size of oil or less on the ground in 1-2 weeks time. Oil is changed annually and always checked for level, never gets low.
  • The front hood decal is peeling off (likely aftermarket).
  • The door tag is unreadable/coming off, water gets behind the sticker.
  • Weather stripping is old and cracking around the driver and passenger side doors.

The car passed California smog testing and the Highway Patrol VIN inspection in 2020. I believe this is a 3 owner car, with the original owner owning/storing it most of it's life in Oregon.
