1970 Porsche 911

1970 Porsche 911 T:

A buddy and I purchased this car 20 years ago, back when you could buy these in running condition forless than5k. Remember those days? It was a running, driving 911T and while a little tired and scruffy it was ultimately in very good shape.

We had big plans to make it into a track car: we stripped it and sent it to a body shop where they welded SC flares onto it and painted it inside and out with Glasurit paint.

You guys shaking your heads as you contemplate two 20-somethings doing this to anice long-hood early 911, please remember that things were quite a bit different back in the mid-90's.Sure, the early S's were worth a bit but this example was the lowly T model.

Inevitably, careers, marriages, mortgagesand kids came up in the years that ensued. My friend moved away and took the car as he said he hadstorage for it. As time went by, I was told the car was kept indoors and in the same shape it had been in. We vowed to one day finish it, and laughed about how much better off we'd have been had we kept it original.

When his widow called me a few months ago to come get the car, I discovered that for the last 5 or so years it had been parked underneath an awning and hadn't been "indoors" in quite some time.

Nonetheless what you see for sale today is an excellent shell that depending on what you ultimately want to do with this car will depend on how much work it will need.

To start: What you see here is what is for sale, period. The suspension is all intact, and the door glass and window lift mechanisms are in place but other than that, there is nothing else that comes with the car. I'm really not sure where any of the other parts may be; I remember a lot of the interior we simply got rid of as it was going to be a stripped-out racer anyway. Now I can only speculate what happened to any number of the parts but ultimately that's all it would be is speculation.

I'm not going to bother the widow so please do not ask me if there are other parts! What you see here in the photos is what you get. And I assure you that you will not see me selling bits and pieces for a 1970 911 on eBay--I simply do not nor will I ever have them.

Most importantly, the body is in very good shape: The paint is now dull but the rockers are solid, all panels are straight and true and the floors are solid. There is a small dent on the driver's side rocker. The doors are in excellent shape: straight and solid with some isolated bubbling on the lower passenger door only (see photo). The only part thatmight need attention (again depending on what you want this car to become) is the kick panelwhere the fuel pump is located. I don't recall why we didn't replace it, but again this was 20 years ago when these cars were worth a fraction of what they are now and we'd intended on beating it up on the race track. The battery tray is solid, but was somewhat crudely repaired before we got the car. The ducktail lid is fiberglass, and pursuant to the paragraph above, the original engine cover and grille are long gone.

What you see in the headlight cowls, on the A-pillars and other places is surface oxidation caused by this car sitting under a condensation-trapping awning for a few years.

There are a few odd photos of the underside of the trunk: I was unable to get it opened so I took a few photos through where the gas tank sits, and you can see where it was painted in there as well.

Again, depending on what level and/or what you'd want to do with this car will dictate what needs to be done. As it sits right now, it could be put back together as is and used as a track day car. Anything more than that will require more work, but either way this body is an excellent basis for something really cool. I'm selling it as I simply don't have the time to get it running.

If you've waded this far through my prose, you know this is a great opportunity to get an early 911 that can be modified to your heart's content without offending the purists. Magnus Walker, this one would be perfect to receive your treatment.

Feel free to ask questions, although I'm not sure what more I can say about the car. Most importantly, I want this to go to a knowledgeable enthusiast with the wherewithal to return it to its former glory.
