Description of 1961 Porsche 356 |
1961 Porsche 356 B T5 Coupe Ivory White Black Interior 90hp 912 Engine
1961 Porsche 356 B coupe T5. I purchased this car 20 years ago pretty much as it is today, and have put about 20,000 trouble free miles on the car over that period. This was a third car and was only driven occasionally on weekends and has always been garaged. The car is very much original except for the engine and paint. It has Ivory White paint exterior and interior with Black upholstery and White headliner. Per the paint code on the door tag, color of the car was originally Stone Grey.
I bought this car with an early 912 90hp engine installed in place of the original 60hp normal engine. The engine number indicates it is a 1966 Porsche 912 Engine Type 616/36. Early 912 engines were the near equivalent to 356SC engines with slightly lower compression ratio so it is a large upgrade in performance over the available 356 60-75hp engines available in 1961 and it is still a 356 type engine. I was told by Porsche experts that this is a very nice performance upgrade. Engine runs strong and starts easily. It has Zenith carburetors and an electric fuel pump which bypasses the original mechanical fuel pump which is disconnected but still present.
VIN# 117024 Engine# 746 517
This 356B has rear side windows that open. It also has original Speedster style long body molding trim on the sides. T5 body style for 1961 were the last single rear grill body style with the smaller rear window before the T6 and C model bodies with bigger windows and twin grills on the hood.. Interior is in good condition and very presentable but could use a refresh for a more restored look, particularly could use new floor mats and front carpets. There are a few cracks in the vinyl upholstery side panels beneath the rear quarter windows. Seat covers are in very good condition. Rims and hub caps have some surface rust. Ipod ready JVC CD stereo player installed in the glove box.
Car is solid with minimal to no apparent rust except for possibly near door bottoms. Battery box has been replaced. Very good running solid 356. It's a nice driver or a good candidate for further restoration. Please ask if you have any questions prior to bidding, I will be happy to answer any questions about this Porsche. I am not a Porsche expert by any means. This is the only Porsche or 356 that I have ever owned. I hate to sell it but I no longer have the space to store. Shipping is the responsibility of the winning bidder. I am happy to meet you for pick up or I am willing to be available to meet a door to door shipper. |
