Description of 1956 Porsche Other |
ClickHEREto see a short video taken last week of the Porsche Spyder 1956 Porsche 550 replicaThe Porsche 550 is one of the most iconic cars in Porsche history. At the time Porsche wanted to build a nimble roadster that could compete in racing with the likes of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Jaguar. The third 550 prototype was the first 550 to race and in fact won its first race at the Nurburgring Eiffel Race in 1953.Following that victory, the 550 went on to claim 95 victories and 75 class wins over a total of 370 races. The 550 became known as the “Giant Killer” as it took on bigger manufacturers often beating them. Total production of the 550 was 90 cars...of which 43 were built as non-race “customer cars”The values of the 550 have skyrocketed...if one happens to come up for sale it’s guaranteed to bring millions. I have always loved the 550 and its history but like most of us I don’t have the funds (or trust fund) to afford the real deal. So, a replica is the next best thing. I am the third owner (first two owner were from Texas). I have owned the car about 5 years. The car needed a little TLC and sorting out when I first got her. Under my ownership the following was done•-throttle body sensor replaced •-all fluids drained and replaced•-gas tank removed and all gas lines replaced•-both cv boots replaced•-valves adjusted•-new Michelin’s installed•-livery graphics made and installed•-hours cleaning and polishing The car has been used sparingly under my ownership...mostly shakedown drives after mechanical work and 2016 I drove it about an hour to attend Kiawah island concours weekend. Most of the time I admire it as a static display in a climate-controlled garage. The video I took was taken this week (March 2) and the car drove beautiful and turned heads as it usually does. Now a little about the car.... it’s a Vintage Spyder (one of the best reproduction companies) and based on what the previous owner stated it was built in 2000.what makes this Spyder truly unique is that the motor was built by a race team out of Hawaii...it’s has a large dry sump system and is fuel injected...but to most people it looks like a carb set up. I have yet to see a Spyder built to this spec... it’s definitely built to perform.in the pictures I have a copy of the build specs.... a long time VW mechanic did some work on it and said it’s a very well-done example and they used very high-end parts in the building of the motor. He had quite a few customers come to check the car out when he was working on it and he said everyone loved it. the car currently has 7,521 km=4,673 miles...I’m assuming it’s km because speedo is in KM’s.either way...it’s low miles!! I have some records, photos of car being built, brochures/literature from previous owners and I have records of work I had done by mechanic.I am NOT interested in trades of any kind.
