Description of 1977 Porsche 911 |
This 1977 911S has had 3 Southern California owners since new. It was originally purchased by an Air Force Pilot in San Diego. The car was previously converted to an ‘86 Carrera by Andial; this included a new ’86 3. 2 engine. valance. headlights. steering wheel. whale tail and the addition of steel RS rear flares. The car was eventually passed onto the Pilot’s adult son – but saw very little use. It was then purchased by a Porsche enthusiast in Santa Barbara and later sold to another Santa Barbara local in 2007 who put less than 5000 miles on it with a single full service at Schneider’s Autohaus during his ownership. The car has been garaged since new. and at the time of my purchase in March this year had only 62. 15mi on the chassis and an estimated <30. 00mi on the engine. The car. although in excellent condition and ready to drive anywhere. went into my garage for a substantial make-over into a sports purpose weekend touring. lightweight themed. short hood car with some retro touches. This car was built to be a driver – it is not a show car. but shows as a very well refreshed and re-themed low mileage classic Porsche. An engaging driving experience with a classic look and modern reliable convenience. Whilst enhancing the driving experience I wanted to maintain comfort. practicality and reliability - this car could realistically be used as a daily driver if wished. The car now weighs only 2440lbs with ¾ tank of gas and spare/tools onboard. Sound proofing. electric windows and sunroof were maintained. Items like the air handling system and window washers (that never worked that well in this vintage anyway) where removed. The stock seat belt system was retained for convenience with frequent use (passenger side seatbelt replaced with new genuine Porsche part as was not functioning properly). Hot air remains available from the heat exchangers at the windscreen for defrosting. and via the dash vents for winter heating. Everything that remains on the car works well with the exception of the rear window defroster which needs connecting. Porterfield pads. quick bleed nipples and Sebro drilled and vented rotors - Stainless steel brake lines - New master cylinder - Turbo tie rods and bump steer kit - Lightweight (plush) RS carpets - Lightweight door panels - GT Racing IROC bumpers - GT Racing 935 mirrors - 7 coat Lacquer repaint – Grand Prix White and Dolphin Grey (chosen for ease of touch up/repair). 4 coats of white primer where applied and blocked prior to the lacquer application – paint is good driver quality with the original color not apparent without crawling around underneath. - Elephant racing wide mouth Carrera Fender cooler and stone shield - Elephant racing finned oil lines - Custom mid grey GT Racing PORSCHE decals - New Bosch H4 headlights - New euro tail light and front indicator lenses - New windscreen - New door and quarter window rubber and felt seals - 17”X 7/8 Euromeister low pressure cast alloy wheels. nbsp; 205/225 Dunlop DzII's - Rennline triangulated front strut tower brace - New wiper blades - New ignition switch (both electrical and mechanical component)- Early 911 repro interior rear vision mirror - and more…. The car now has 64. 81mi on it and is regrettably up for sale as I have a baby daughter on the way! It’s ready to drive anywhere and enjoy as is or make an excellent base for continued development of engine/suspension to create a “streetable” high performance machine. It runs very strong and tight; shifting up between first and second and down between third and second is very tight as one would expect following the recent rebuild; but is fine once warm and improving with use. A recent pre track inspection and general assessment by Schneider’s Autohaus required only spring plate bushings and brake line replacement – both now done. All fluids and filters have been changed and valve adjustment done approx. 1500 miles ago. Exhaust is stock - smog's easily as an '86. Swepco Gear oil and Brad Penn 20/50 engine oil used since makeover.
