Description of 1955 Studebaker |
Up For Sale: 1955 Studebaker Coupe. Want a Champion you can drive anywhere and has been mechanically fixed and maintained? Get this one. With the 3spd and overdrive this car is a very fun and viable collector car to drive. This car has been a member of our family for many years. It originally was a Texas and southern car, it has been a collector car and never been driven in the winter since being up here in Michigan. The paint is a 40 year old lacquer repaint, it is very presentable for cruise night or your car show, but it not a fresh spray. There is age checking in the paint, some small dings, and touch ups, small blisters, etc. The photos do NOT show all the imperfections of the 40 year old lacquer repaint and a survivor car type exterior on the car. I tried my best showing an imperfect spot in the paint, and that picture is included, but the camera has a difficult time showing it. Being a Southwest car most its life; the floors are all metal with no rot, frame is excellent, and all the body mounts are excellent. The front fenders do have some slight ‘bulging’, but things have held up well considering it was last painted 40 years ago. Chrome is generally bright and shiny, but still being original it has patina and some pitting. See picture. Bumpers are very nice. All the glass is good. There are no cracks or chips in any of the glass. Tires are 5 matching radials with excellent tread. Mechanically, probably the best 55 Champion available. It has less then a couple thousand miles on a NOS crate Studebaker six cylinder engine sourced from Newman-Altman back in the day. When that was installed, a new clutch was installed along with a NOS T-96 overdrive transmission. Driveshaft has all newer U-joints, center bearing, and center rubber mounts. Rear axle had new axle bearings, new axle shafts, and axle seals. All the brakes were redone, all new wheel cylinders, brake shoes, rear drums NOS, all flex hoses, and every piece of metal brake line was replaced. Radiator is upgraded to a 3-row as used on HD cooling application Champions and also V8 55’s. Car has been upgraded to an electric fuel pump with fuel return system to tolerate the ethanol fuels. The car is still the stock 6 Volt. Front suspension and steering have been recently rebuilt: kingpins, bushings, bellcrank, tie rods, A-arms, etc. Also at that time, an SL steering gearbox was sourced, rebuilt, and installed, for easier tight steering. Truly, the car steers as easily as if it had power steering. Interior was redone in more recent times by a custom upholsterer who knew what he was doing. No poor fitting JC Witney covers here. All the gauges, speedometer, switches, and lights work, heater works, and wipers work. Obviously, this car has been a member of the family after you have read the list of things done to it. It is time to downsize the collection, I am NOT a dealer, just been the family hobby. Questions or any other info you would like to know, or talk Studebaker, you are encouraged to contact: two three one – six seven nine – zero five zero one. Payment by cash upon pickup, or by bank Cashiers Check. If paying by cashiers check, payment must clear to my banks satisfaction, and my satisfaction before car is released. Title will be released at the time car is picked up. Title is a clear current Michigan title. License plate on car does not go with it as it is registered for life to us as part of Michigan’s historical plate program. Exact mileage on chassis/body unknown, as I cannot vouch for the car before our family has had it. Once payment has cleared to my satisfaction, car must be picked up within 30 days or storage charges will incur. No games, no lowballers, and I will not take payments or trades or tolerate BS. |
