Description of 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser PC11 |
Please note the VIN for this FJ45 is FJ45-297564 and is not recognizable by eBay. I jumped on the opportunity to purchase and import this barn find in 2015. The car was in excellent shape overall due to the arid conditions it lived in, the low mileage, and the fact that it was parked in a warehouse for years as a prior owner needed AC (not an easy job by any means) and no local shops could source and install one for him. This particular FJ45 also excited me as its the only one I have ever seen with the rear jack gear on the end of the bed to lower the spare. Once imported, the car received a complete cosmetic and mechanical restore with Toyota OEM NOS parts sourced from all over the world. All work was done at a local Toyota dealer (receipts available at a cost of over $7k for labor alone). The aim was to restore this tank to be usable on a daily basis while retaining the stock ride and indestructible feel Toyota intended for this car. The car has handled monsoon-level rains, snow, and sand without a single hiccup. It dependably cruises at 65-70mph on the highway. The ignition system brings the car to life easily at the turn of the key. I recently came back from a 1,000-mile adventure through Western Massachusetts and Southern Vermont and it didnt skip a beat. I have been daily driving it otherwise since the restoration. NOS OEM highlights include:
The car has more character than anything I have ever driven and is comfortable with anything you throw at it. Its simplicity and fantastic engineering also means it can be enjoyed and maintained easily indefinitely. |
