This example is a dry, Arizona truck that was lovingly owned and cared for by a single family that spent its life in the Tucson area and only has 49,000 actual miles. The second family purchased the truck in 2017 and had Dean Laumbach Consulting oversee a cosmetic refresh, including new seat covers and carpeting, the installation of a roll bar and auxiliary lighting, detailing of the engine/undercarriage/paint, paintless dent removal, and more! This Toyota is now recently refreshed and well sorted for the next owner to fully enjoy. Built in Japan in July 1988, this truck’s first day of use was reported as October 6, 1988.Dressed in white (code 033) with a factory tape package, the truck’s paint and trim are in overall very good order with some minor blemishes. The truck’s body is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the 75-inch cargo bed is clean and looks good with the new bed liner, and the chrome bumpers are in very good order. Passenger sideview mirror, rollbar and KC Hilites added within past three years. This truck rolls on Forceum ATZ light truck tires, size 235/75R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on factory steel wheels with manual front hubs. The wheels and tires are all in very good shape. Under the hood is Toyota’s new-for-1988 optional 3L SOHC V-6 engine with electronic fuel injection (code 3VZ-E). As the motor’s dance partner is a five-speed manual transmission with a two-speed transfer case. The most recent service in April 2017 included an oil change, coolant flush, new valve cover seals. Earlier maintenance includes a new clutch slave cylinder installed in August 2016; front brakes and drive belts in May 2010; and head gaskets and exhaust from the catalytic converter rearward in October 2006. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning and tilt steering column. Inside, the gray cloth-and-vinyl interior (code HD11) has been reupholstered in correct vinyl. The bench seat with fold-down center armrest looks great, as does the contrasting black carpet. The gray headliner is in good, original shape and the two-spoke steering wheel looks great with its twin ancillary stalks jutting from either side of the steering column. The gray dashboard has a couple of cracks in the top at the passenger side while the inner door liners are in very good shape. The floor-mounted gearshift and transfer case levers look good. A factory AM/FM stereo with CD player rounds out the interior. The next redesign, in 1988, introduced a longer-wheelbase option, 122 inches rather than 103 inches for the regular wheelbase. Its one-piece cargo-box walls eliminated the seams that were found in earlier models. In North America, the Hilux continued to be sold simply as the “Toyota Pickup.†The cargo capacity was and 1,400 pounds for four-wheel drive models. GVWRs ranged from 2,565 to 5,350 pounds. Documentation includes original owner’s manual, service receipts, KC Hilites brochure.
