Description of 1973 Volkswagen Thing |
This 1973 VW Thing with the stock 1600 dual port “AM” series engine with a 34 pict 3 Solex (German) carburetor. It has been painted by the previous owner (Southern California) orange with metallic black tiger stripes. It has a BN-4 gasoline heater that is fully operational. This Thing has been well maintained and the previous owner replaced the following: Heavy canvas top, master cylinder, 4 wheel cylinders, new Bilstein shocks, and reupholstered all seats. Since January 2016 I have replaced the following: New rubber brake lines (all wheels), front brake shoes, front wheel bearings, trunk and deck seals, fuel sending unit, fuel pump, Solex 34-3 carburetor, new plugs and wires, Bosch voltage regulator, new Malory pistons, sleeves, wrist pins, German oil cooler, engine compartment seal, transmission mounts, Petronix distributor with electronic ignition, degree pulley, Bosch generator, German cooling fan, turn signal assembly, new Thing Shop Windshield wiper blade assemblies and horn ring. The inside floor pans haven been painted with Rhino liner. I have purchased a locking cap from the Thing Shop, installed a locking diamond plate tool box in the back, and installed a Gene Berg oil temperature dip stick. This Thing all around is in very good condition. It has been entered in two classic VW (SEVWA) shows and won 2nd in the VW Thing category and top 25 in the second show. It has very good overall presentation and gets a lot of attention when driving. It has been garage kept since I purchased it. It has a clean North Carolina title and currently registered. I drive this vehicle for pleasure and the actual mileage may be slightly higher than pictured. The body is solid as well as the floor pans. This Thing needs nothing but the open country road. The front clip has a dent on the driver side no paint chipping, the passenger fender has a dent the size of a nickel that is missing the paint, the driver door has a scratch about 3 ½ long (no dent). The windshield has3 small chips and some scratches from the windshield wiper. The hood has some small dents from possible previous hail (previous owner) but can only be seen from a certain angle and is not normally noticeable.
