Description of 1974 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic |
||
1974 VW Beetle Baja bug This Beetle was owned by only two people since new. Only titled in the original owner and then in our dealer name. Thesecond owner acquiredit from his neighbor and did all of the modifications in the late 80's. The bug was then parked in a warehouse after the original motor spun a bearing. We purchased the bug basicallyas seen. We did install the new GEX engine and carb (New.. but purchased from Craigslist) and got the bug running again. But that is where we stopped. The bug does run great! Everythingelse is going to need to be looked over since it hasn'treally moved on its own since 1990. Body. The front end is fiberglass and set up as a tilt front end to access the aluminum gas tank. The fitment is not great as with most fiberglass bodies. It will need some adjustment or modifications.floors at some time were replaced front to back both sides,The rest of the body is pretty much rust free and in good shape, and the roll cage is welded together extremely well. A lot of thought went into the cage. It runs through the entire car front to rear. Tying in the suspension and drive train. The cage was also set up for easy bolt on replacement in case of crash to the front rear or nerf bars. The VDO gauges are installed but the wiringis not hooked up. Engine$3499.00 1776 Dual Port engine rebuilt by GEX Remanufactured Engines. 1 hour total run time, External remote oil cooler. No heater vents in the dog house. Alternator not generator. gex.com/1776Turnkey < non clickable link 3499.00Case We use only the later model cases with the larger oil passages and the dual pressure relief valve system. After align-boring and installing case savers, the case is machined out for the Cima Mahle pistons and cylinders. Using a Bridgeport Mill, we cut 3 steps inside the cylinder holes to match the cylinders perfectly. The use of 3 precise cuts instead of 1 large cut, leaves more material on the case for increased strength and durability.
Our GEX 110 cam is set up for .431 inches lift and 284 degree duration. This cam has a mild idle and is superior for street and off road, providing excellent low and mid range power. Heavy Duty Oil Pump These pumps, with the 30 mm gears increase oil pressure and lower engine operating temperature. The result is increased engine life. 8 dowel Crankshaft & Flywheel With the increased horsepower created, you have to be able to transfer it to the wheels reliably. The weakest link in the chain is the stock VW 4 dowel crank and flywheel connection. All GEX Hi-performance engines come with this 8 dowel setup (SPG pattern) to effectively double the strength in this area and prevent crankshaft / flywheel separation. Heavy Duty Swivel Adjusters These superstrong rocker arm adjusters are designed to spread the impact load on the valve ends and improve control of valve setting tolerances. They will not bind or distort the end of the valve stem. Hi Carbon Steel Pushrods These push rods insure constant valve control under all conditions. They are heat treated to resist flexing and bending at high rpm's. Bolt on Valve Covers Stops Valve Cover oil leaks and adds that custom finishing touch to any air cooled 1200 to 1600 cc based engine. Carburetor -$815.00 Empi dual 40mm carb intake kit - found on GEX website Transmission I don't have much info on the transmission. I was told it is a heavy duty bus transmission?? The clutch is slipping in second gear. It did not look as though it was worn when we installed the motor, We think the hydraulic clutch may not be adjusted properly. Brakes -Just in front of the shifter was mounted Dual CNC cutting brakes. We removed the system and attached a bypass line for now. We also purchased a rebuild kit for the master cylinders, which will need to be rebuilt. stainless brake lines, 3 reservoirbrake clutch master cylinder. Suspension - Custom triplerear shocks tied into the roll cage, Boxed rear control arms, Adjustable front torsion bar, Balljoint style front upper and lower control arms Wheels - Aluminum wheels with wide 5 bolt pattern. |
