Description of 1962 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic |
This is a 1962 VW Cabriolet Convertible. Throughout the 1960s, VW produced a very low number of convertibles worldwide. In 1962, this represented 1% of the worldwide market. Understandably, this is a very rare car. I originally restored the car more than 13 years ago as a birthday present for my wife. A second restoration, started a little over a year ago, has just been completed. This second restoration included a complete repainting as well as a new convertible headliner, padding and vinyl top. The rear drum brakes have been completely rebuilt, just back from the shop. A new battery and new tires were also installed. The color is an original Pacific Blue for 1962. The front and rear bumpers have been remove, blasted, and professionally powder coated. The car has the body and components from 1962, but rests on a 1969 pan. This upgrades the vehicle so that the front brakes have been replaced with full disk braking and now has independent rear axles. Since the car is resting on a pan from 1969, but has the body from a 1962 vehicle, the title is salvage. It is common in restoration of a vehicle to perform such an upgrade, and possible to register the car according to the pan, but in this case the car remains registered and titled as a 1969 vehicle. If this is bothering to you, please do not contact me any further. We have registered the car, transferred the title to our name, and have been insurance without any problems for the past 13 years. The car is now fully functional for a 12 volt system (originally a 6 volt system). The windshield wiper motor has just been upgraded to a 12 volt motor. All switches and electrical now work on 12 volts. The 1300cc engine has been removed from the vehicle. All seals and gaskets were replaced and the engine cleaned and repainted. The heads were removed and professionally rebuilt by a local VW shop in San Marcos. I am a licensed used car dealer, although this is being offered as a personal transaction, and have extensive experience with advertising through the internet. Do not send me any texts. Do not send me any emails. If you ARE SERIOUS, give me a call. I’ll be happy to tell you anything you need to know. If you are in need, I MAY be able to transfer this vehicle from our personal use to my dealership and offer financing. I am one of the very few dealers in Southern California able to offer financing on classic cars. |
