Up for sale is a 1969 VW Bug Convertible. This car is a fresh restoration just completed in June of this year. This car had a restoration started on it in the early 1990s when the pans were replaced and body stripped to the metal. The body and pan were mated before undercoating and painting the entire car. The car had the fenders hung loosely and didnt got further than that and sat for 20+ years. It acquired chips, dings and dents as it was moved from shops to garages numerous times but didn't get finished. The previous owner brought it to me in the Fall of 2016 in that state. The Guards Red paint job got redone last summer and winter along with all the suspension, brakes, engine, interior and top components gone through and either replaced, refurbished, polished, painted, plated or powder coated over the past year and a half. Many parts were either missing or not usable so lots had to be hunted down. New stainless steel moldings, running boards, brand new German window scrapers with chrome trim and triple chromed bumpers complete the exterior. Brand new carpet, seat padding and un-cut dash pad compliment the interior and all new wood bows for the top frame was covered with new headliner, padding and vinyl cover from Chuck's Convertible parts. The engine is a rebuilt "AH" AS41 block, with 88mm cylinders and single port heads fueled with a Solex H30/31 pict carburetor to make a simple, reliable and strong 1679cc engine. The engine has a complete thermostat setup (all louvers andnearly all german tins, to warm it up quickly) and doghouse fan shroud oil cooler. It is mated with a new clutch kit to a stock geared transmission. The shifting is smooth thanks to rebuilding the shift rod with new bushing kit. Stock drum brakes have been completely rebuilt, new master(German) and wheel cylinders, hard lines and soft lines, new pads and hardware. The car drives and handles like an original factory car thanks to no alterations to the height and all new bushings, ball joints and KYB gas shocks all the way around. The suspension was completely torn down, sand-blasted, re-coated and reassembled with new bearings, Seals, zinc plated hardware and new rubber where required. New fender bolts were used with new beading all the way around. Doors, windows, trunk and decklid have all new rubber seals too. A brand new complete electrical harness from front to back ensures that everything will work properly for years and years to come. The wheels are 3rd generation Riviera alloys, wrapped with 165/15 Vitour Galaxy R1 radials, were blasted and clear powder coated and finished off with brand new reproduction aluminum center caps. A brand new Firestone on a powder-coated steel rim sits in the trunk in front of a new trunk liner, restored fuel tank and original restored jack. This car is ready to go, it has around 500 miles on it since completion and will continue to accumulate more shake down miles with non-ethanol premium fuel to prevent any gasket breakdown in the carburetor. I have hundreds of pictures of this car throughout its restoration and would be happy to share those to any potential buyer upon request. Please feel free to ask any questions about any detail of the car, the whole car was rebuild by myself so I know everything about it and can tell you anything you would like to know. Thank you for looking and happy vert hunting.
