Description of 1963 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic

1963 VW Bug Pro Street

This project was completed in the past 2 months. This projected started with a Body and Pan off restoration which includes new floor pans and other age related sheet metal replacement. The vision of this project is to create a 70's Pro Street.

I tried hard to balance the performance upgrades with a vintage Bug. All of the fenders are steel, as are the doors, hood and decklid. The vintage looks continues with the door wing windows and added pop-out rear windows (while they are not correct for the year but I love the look, hopefully you will like them as well). All of the trim is correct as is the chrome bumpers.

The performance mods is a long list, I will do my best to hit the high points however please feel free to ask any questions. Starting off with the powerplant which was built by Powerhaus in Torrance, CA. It started with a new case which was built to 2332 cc with Dual 48 IDF Weber Carburetors. I have included a copy of the invoice and build specs for the motor. The motor cost was $9320. The motor was shop broken in and since then the only use is dialing it in after the build was complete. Oil is cooled by an electronic Derale cooler which is behind the rear seat. Next to the cooler is a remote oil filter assembly and the positive evac canister. The MSD box is below the rear seat and the battery charging posts (so you do not have to remove the backseat to charge it for storage) in front of a Red Top Optima battery.

The Pro Street Transaxle is attached to racing swing axles, racing torsion bar (90 mm I believe) and adjustable height. The rear brakes are from CNC brakes (They are amazing) dual piston calipers. The shifter is a V-Gate from RLR Motorsports which allows short throw with definitive shift positions.

The Front End is narrowed and adjustable (Link Pin) with EMPI front discs and a new TRW steering box. The wheels that are pictured in the ad are custom made aluminum from Custom Metal Spinning (Santa Fe Springs, CA), the front ones have zero offset which allows the fronts to sit inside the front fenders. All four has new racing slicks. The successful bidder will also get 4 new wheels and tires that are more street friendly, they are mounted with brand new Yokohoma Advan A048 205/60R15. Switching the tires requires adjustments to the suspension which is super easy and requires no disassembly of the components.

The Interior has the stock gauges (fuel and speedo, both restored and they work) in addition it has a set of temp, pressure gauges and an Autometer tach, the Steering Wheel is quick release. The racing seat is mounted above the stock seat tracks, I mention this as if you wanted to go back to the original seat, 30 minutes of grinding will remove the racing seat brackets and its back to stock. The racing seat is a MOMO that is FIA approved. The original seat (with new upholstery installed) comes with the successful buyer. All of the seats (rear and front) have been fitted with 3 point seat belts, the driver seat has a quick release 5 point approved harness. The roll cage is from RLR Motorsports, it is powder coated and bolts in. The cage is mounted to a set of traction bars that mounts into the 1" raised transmission kit / brackets etc (again RLR Motorsports).

The car drives and runs perfect as you would expect, all of the lights, wipers etc work and are functioning properly. This car needs an owner that will drive it a lot, as you can see this is no low budget build. I built it for fun without any expectation that I will keep it but I built it like I would. I am selling it to fund new projects, this build cost was close to $40K but the market will tell if it was a bad investment. I have done my best to describe what you are bidding again please feel free to send me a note with any questions. The sale is final so please ask as many questions as you need before you bid.

Good Luck!
