Here is the story of this van. I got the van in 1998. Went camping and used it daily for about a year. Then the engine broke some rings and I had it fixed but it turned out that the problem was a clogged cat converter. I bought another project Kombie with a rebuilt engine and put it in this vehicle but it wouldn't start. Took it to a mechanic and a year later he still couldn't get it going. It sat until 5 years ago when I started fixing it up. I finally got the engine running but it ran really bad. So I pulled the engine and put in new rings, and had the heads redone. Put the engine in with a new Catalytic Converter and muffler. But the engine will only run for about 5 seconds because the computer doesn't turn on the injectors. I hire d a guy who was supposed to be an expert on VW wiring and he tore the wiring out under the dash and he started installing a new fuse/relay holder because the starting issue was the result of broken wire tabs on the relay/fuse plate but then he disappeared leaving a bird's nest under the dash. I have had it painted, installed a mess of new stuff like the off-road tubular bumpers that cost me $1,000.00 I have this in a friend's semi-enclosed garage and he wants it gone ASAP and I've run out of money and time so I need to either sell it or send it to the wrecking yard. Here is a chance to get a really nice and unique Camping van for a really good price which could be completed for less than a $1,000.00. The following is a list of things that have been done to it. Spare alternator and fuel injectors and misc. odds and ends To the best of my knowledge, the only remaining issues with this van are the wiring and starting problem and wiring check, installing the heat exchangers, installing new side curtains, and hooking up the radio. There was one small dent under the front driver's door which I repaired. I found no rust anywhere on the body except the usual stuff underneath which was treated and then rubber coated. The door for the rear storage compartment may or may not be replaced by the time it is sold. I am continuing to work on it and the asking price will go up every week that it remains unsold as more issues are dealt with. I am also running it locally as well and I will remove it from Ebay if it sells. This is a really good chance to get a unique vehicle at a really good price. I can send more pictures if needed. Be clear that this vehicle is not driveable and must be towed or put on a trailer. Once the pink slip has been signed the responsibility for any other issues will be entirely that of the new owner. This is a non-California vehicle meaning that its computer and pollution controls are different than a California specific engine and emission control system.
