Description of 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup Truck Caddy |
Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup Truck Caddy. Condition is used and vehicle is sold as is. I have owned this truck for a couple years now. Here are things that have been done to it recently; Replaced windshield wiper motor with a used one purchased on eBay, along with new wiper blades at current mileage - 158625 Synthetic Blend Rotella T5 15W-40 with Wix oil filter changed at current mileage - 158625Wix fuel filter at current mileage - 158625Replaced passenger side rear brakes, with new hardware at current mileage - 158625 I have taken photos of all the "rough" spots on this vehicle. These were all on the truck when I bought it, and I didn't get a whole lot of information from the previous owner. Starting with the worst of the body damage is around the driver side rear wheel well. From here we take a trip to the bumper and truck bed on rear driver side. What it looks like to me is that someone chose a really bad spot to use a jack. There is a slight "bump" in the truck bed from where the bumper was bent up. The truck bed canopy included a plexiglass window when I purchased it that has since been removed. I have the original aluminum piece that would be glued to a new piece of glass or plexiglass that has the handle on it. There is damage to the passenger side of the truck bed topper where the window shock stuck and it peeled the aluminum while trying to close to the canopy window. The adhesive on the carpet inside has come away. I chose to leave it as is in case the next owner wants to finish removing the interior. The interior ceiling is missing the original vinyl covering. Shift boot is torn. There is a note inside the glove box stating the timing belt was done at 157,301. I can't confirm this. The A/C does not currently work. I charged it, and it blew cold air, but was also slowly leaking the refrigerant, from what I could tell somewhere on the passenger side. It can be sticky to get into first gear occasionally due to the shift linkage needing to be replaced. I have a kit still new in box to replace the shift linkage and bushings that comes with this truck. It's just slightly tough to get into first gear, not difficult; as in I have never been held up at an intersection trying to get it into first gear. This truck drives smooth and straight down the road. Please don't expect this vehicle to keep up on the interstate at modern speed limits 65mph+ as the truck is most comfortable in 4th gear between 55-65. It also comes with the original VW wheels with tires mounted with decent tread. Includes VW rubber floor mats, and rubber insert for the truck bed. I will upload a photo album soon, with more detailed photos. Please feel free to ask any questions, or request photos of specific spots. Again this truck is being sold as is, and I promise to be 100% truthful and transparent in all questions. This truck passes inspection in my state in NC, and gets me around. I don't know when the last time the glow plugs were replaced, but they warm up properly still, the glow plug light goes out on the dash, and she turns over every time. Sometimes the parking brake light on the dash will flicker on and off while hitting a bump on the road. The radio works. It could use a new exhaust at some point. The cap on the windshield washer fluid reservoir is broken. |
