Description of 1978 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon |
This is my 1978 Volkswagen Bus. It's been in the family for the last ten years and has brought so much joy. I have all the paperwork of the work that's been done to it. When we got it, it was brush painted brown, smelly, and had the original interior, though it was rather used. Now - it's a beautiful blue bus! It's been in my dad's possession for most of the ten years we've had it, but for the last year and a half it's been with me in Boston. I bike most places in the city and used it when it was raining or for nearby weekend trips or grocery trips. I think the pictures mostly speak for themselves. It's a wonderful, well-loved car. Mechanics I've taken it too have said the engine is in pretty good shape. It's not something that needs totally replaced, just maintained. It's seen the mechanic's shop a few times this year, and AAA has been called for starter issues. No major issues, just little fixes here and there that come with the VW Bus life. BULLETPOINTS:- Clean title! Registered in Massachusetts.-Passed inspection in July 2020. All lights, horn, wipers, in working condition.-brakes solid- Updated the interior upholstery-Updated exterior paint job - not original colorThe gear-shift is in good shape and smooth. It's an old bus, so the gear shifting is WIDE. Takes some getting used to. Especially finding reverse.- Rust isn't a huge issue either. It's not mint obviously, and I included photos of where rust is noticeable.- New shocks, brakes run fine, new starter, new tire rods. All documented fixes included of all things updated.- Pop-top is updated from the original and is in very good condition. No leaks. Just a little dirty on the one side. The whole camper sleeps 4 (but 4 is tight honestly).-Electrical hookup on the side works so the outlets inside function. That comes in handy for lights/charging phones when camping (in spots with electric hookup).-Odometer reading is unclear. The title says it's 105,456 (08/02/2019) but the dashboard says 86,450 (09/26/2020). Since the title issue in 2019, I estimate driving it no more than 2,500 at the absolute maximum.-Original VW hubcaps WHY I'M SELLING IT:I'm moving! No space for it anymore and it feels like the right time to let it go. Make no mistake tho - I'll tear up once it's gone... THINGS IT DOESN'T HAVE/NEED WORK:- The original gas tank under the car for the stove. We took it off and deemed it too much of a fire hazard years ago. We've never used the sink, as we don't have a water tank, but the hookup is still there. The kitchenette is really a glorified table.- In the pictures, the passenger side window crank is broken, but I'm replacing it before it's sold.-The driver's side handle needs replaced as the lock broke. (https://www.busdepot.com/211898205n)- The refrigerator compartment is in tact - but I've never used it. It's so small it's not even worth it.-The interior top cabinet trim needs reattached. It's dangling.-Side mirrors need tightening ODDS/ENDS INCLUDED:(These don't super affect the price, it's more of a gift with the car)-extension cords-spare tire-Coleman gas camping grill-bungee cords-The original VW Westfalia table is included! Just didn't set it up fully. It's cumbersome and have never really used it. Will send pics upon request-Tire iron-VW Bus Owner's manual PAYMENT:Escrow.com (ebay recommended) or cashier's check.
