Description of 1965 Volvo Other Amazon |
The Ebay posting indicates mileage of 53,663; this is what shows on the Odometer. It is NOT a 53k "mint condition" car! I don't know if actual mileage is 153k, 53k, or more, olvos run forever.). This AMAZON is in original, naltered condition for a classic vehicle that is a half-century old. Standard maintenance and upkeep has been performed on this car, owever, bsolutely no "Restoration" efforts have ever been untaken. For a 50-year-old Volvo, t has all the bells, histles, reeks, attles, mells, uirks, atina, ricks, ersonality, nd character that can be expected from what I refer to the Volvos I've owned as "Swedish Farm Tractors disguised as Passenger Cars." Here, 'm going to attempt to post the most accurate and detailed listing currently on Ebay. Given this is a 50-year-old Swedish Sedan, here is no way I canenumerate every last detail. My description isin list form, nd PLEASE write in and ask very detailed questions. I will respond with an equally detailed answer within 24 hours. UPDATE (effective Friday 03July): Took Amazon for a drive today. The ignition issignificantly hesitatingat higher rpm. We've been deluged by 7 inches of rain this week, 've not been able to get under the hood to correct malfunction. Again, want to reiterate this is a 50-year-old vehicle currently exhibiting just "How Charming" she can be. My description is completely forthright and accurate on the actual condition of the car. First, his vehicle is perfect for restoration, n ideal candidate. I purchased the Amazon with full intentions of restoring it myself, owever, run two businesses and I simply do not have time. So, t goes to a good home. NOT in reliable driving condition. It has a significant hesitation at higher rpm. BODY: The exterior body is rust-free. This means NO RUST. The fenders, oors, uarter panels, oof, oot lid, ood, nd underskirting is straight, ligned, ever wrecked, nd zero corrosion. There is one small (3" x 4") shallow dent on the upper side of the right fender (you can kind of see in picture#4). The paint is about five years old and in good condition. This was NOT a $5k high-dollar custom shop job, ust a good meticulous solid red. Yes, ooking very close up there are imperfections. The doors close SOLIDLY. The trunk and hood close SOLIDLY. The whole body is straight and SOLID AS A TANK. UNDERBODY: Corrosion issue. The driver's floor pan has rust-thru (there's a patch on the left of the driver's feet (pictured)). It is untreated so far; structurally it is "okay." I'd recommend welding a new aluminum pan. The other three floor panels have a mild amount of surface corrosion on the underside, et are still structurally sound. WHEEL WELLS: Very clean; very solid. HOWEVER: Behind each wheel (pictured from inside) there is a patch of rust-thru about (2" x 1") directly behind each rear wheel. Easy to patch. The entire rest of the rear wheel wells are very dry, ery clean, ery solid. The front wheel wells are very solid, ery dry. ENGINE: ORIGINAL. Original B18, 800cc Volvo. Never rebuilt. I would NOT call it a "Reliable Daily Driver." I've got a significant hesitation at higher rpm and it completely "bogs down" under load going up hills. I've NOT worked on this at all. My recommendation: new points, otor, ondenser, hen hit it with the timing light. The wires are good, ut old. Spark plugs are old. The B18 is regarded as "INDESTRUCTIBLE." Here is a website detailing rebuild specs: http://www.vclassics.com/archive/engine1.htm . Quote from this site: "The B18/B20 is extremely straightforward -- motors just don't get any simpler than this." HEADS: Rebuilt two years ago. I bought this from Mike, n engineer from Rensselaer, e had rebuilt the heads. Valve seats are good and good compression from both intake and exhaust valves. However, f you plan to rebuild motor as part of a restoration, ount on re-doing the valve assemblies to perform a complete and proper full rebuild. SMALL BLOCK: Again, riginal 50-year-old block. Hence, es it smokes. Rings don't last 50 years. SMALL BLOCK REBUILD?: This B18 would accept a first .030"-over rebuild. The B18 was originally designed by Volvo for truck engines, nd there is plenty of extra metal in the block. MOTOR MOUNTS: Have been replaced with new bushings. GENERATOR: Yes, till has original generator (not alternator) and is an original 12-VOLT system (not thearchaic 6-v). Voltage regulator recentlyreplaced. ( I don't know if a different voltage regulator is needed if switching to a modern alternator.) Note: If it ever stops raining this week, 'll start the car & pull a battery cable = if car still runs, enerator is proven good. STARTER: Of course, eplaced. Works strong. DISTRIBUTOR: I believe original distributor body. See notes above for replacing points, otor, ap, ondenser. I have not replaced these. WATER PUMP: Mike replaced this with a used unit he pulled off another Volvo. I don't know exactly the age of the pump. It works. THERMOSTAT: I have taken out the thermostat & running it sans thermo. I "think" this is a new thermostat, ut I've intended to test it first before putting it back in. Testing it means boiling it in a pot & see if it opens at spec temp. HOWEVER, umerous complaints have been made to me by members of this household regarding this car being OUTSIDE - much less I try bringing parts into her Kitchen. RADIATOR: Original. Even still has the original rubber bushings on the brackets (of course, he original bushing are completely dry-rot and should go, hey're a few cents- but again completely Original condition.) BRAKES: Original master cylinder. Brakes bled two years ago. Would recommend doing this currently. Brakes work "well" but just a bit mushy for my taste. I have not had time to pull the wheels to inspect the front or rear assemblies. I could do this, his week if someone requests this specifically. EMERGENCY BRAKE: Lever ratchets, owever rear drums do not engage. I have not looked at linkage nor done any diagnosis to this. I'll include my complementary "Pet Rock" I use as the back-up E-Brake! GAS TANK: Dry and tight. Original. Original gasket. Sending unit works fine. Fuel pump works fine. Gas Gauge - does work, hough registers "3/4-full" after I fill it completely up. Capacity around 12 gallons - Volvo guys correct me on this data. BATTERY: Battery new in 2008. Holds charge, ut weak.I don't trust 7-year-old batteries. Hence, ometimes I have to jump-start the car.Battery hasgotta go! EXHAUST: Exhaust manifold = original. New gaskets from block to manifold. Exhaust pipe is MODIFIED. Newer exhaust pipe runs to side of car (below passenger rear window) to a Resonator. Exhaust tone sounds cool.Original? No. UPDATE: Given I've disclosed the motor smokes AND the exhaust exits under the passenger rear window, hen if you have your "Uncle Fred" who is a billionaire & you're in his will, ive "Uncle Fred" a ride in the right rear seat with the window down, moke him out with Carbon Monoxide, nd Voile'!!! You get "Uncle Fred's" inheritance! (Just a thought.) TIRES: 165SR/15's with White Wall. Good tread though several years old. Holds all air, one have any "slow-leak" what-so-ever. Ready to drive. TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH: Works properly. Original. No issues. Shifts just like any Farm Tractor is supposed to. +++++++++++++++ INTERIOR: ALL COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. Untouched. That said, f you restore this, ou'll want a full complete new interior. If you plan to drive this, he interior is "decent." Splits in the seats (pictured), therwise supportive and actually comfortable. Carpet is "okay," but pretty much done under the driver's feet. Headliner is clean, ut has two splits and sags a bit on those splits. Lots of sunshine, ence, ash pad shows its age. Entire interior has always been very dry, nly issue under driver's feet. GLASS: ALL COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. Even has original Swedish Volvo windshield - with ZERO cracks or any damage. Does have two very minor streaks where the windshield wiper on the driver side left its mark. All windows roll up and down smoothly, XCEPT for the passenger side window which has slipped its track. I have not had time to even look at this, ould be a 10-minute fix, ould be a pain in the @$$. "BUTTERFLY" WINDOWS: The two front European-style "Butterfly" Windows open and close smoothly. CHROME: "FULL ORIGINAL PATINA" Good condition, VERY SINGLE chrome piece present and accounted for. "PATINA" means there is all the little pitting you'd expect to find after a half-century. HUBCABS: ALL CHROME, reat condition. All present and accounted for. TURN SIGNAL LEVEL: Works great. The green dash light lights up, he signal lever releases after the turn. Signals have that slow, lassic blinking. ODOMETER and TRIPOMETER: Both work great. Odometer reads accurately. SPEEDOMETER: The speedometer is a very classic "Red Ribbon" that runs left to right across the dash panel. Still works perfectly, ery neat feature. DASH LIGHTS: The green signal indicator works. The Blue high-beam indicator works. The Amber "charge" light does not. The little Green light above the fan controls still works. FRONT SEAT BELTS: Volvo was the pioneer and first to install front shoulder-point, hree-point safety belts. Both front seat belts still there working great. WINDSHIELD WIPERS: Working. Work both on high and low speed. Switch and power work great. The actual wipers "flop around" a little on high speed. I haven't looked at it to firm the wipers up. Needs new rubber blades of course. LOCKS/DOOR HANDLES: All doors open/close solidly. Locks work. Have key. RADIO INSERT. There is no radio. More importantly, he metal dash HAS NOT been cut or sawed ever by someone jacking a new unit in the space (pictured). Original Volvo "AM-JAM" can be found on Ebay or internet. ASHTRAY: No signs of use, f course looks original. I do not smoke. Can't guarantee "non-smoking" vehicle going back 50 years. Absolutely no smoke smell. +++++++++++ LEGAL: TITLE: CLEAN TRANSFERABLE Tennessee Title. Original 6-digit VIN#. Car is insured currently and has valid, urrent plates/registration. DEPOSIT: $500 via PayPal. MY FEEDBACK: I have 100.0% Positive feedback on Ebay since 2006. MY PRIOR SALES OF CLASSIC CARS ON EBAY: Yes, ou'll find my positive feedback a few years ago when (some unnamed person living here) made me sell my 1959 Cadillac to a collector in Arizona. NOTE: Vehicle is available for personal inspection at any time this week, ocated in Copperhill TN. Please ask ANY AND ALL detailed questions - I will respond within 24 hours with detailed answer. PICKING UP VEHICLE: I STRONGLY RECOMMEND using a trailer or tow-dolly to pick up vehicle. One, will pull the license plates prior to pick-up.
