Description of 1986 Volvo 240 DL |
A little background about myself, I am a car fanatic and have a friend who is a dealer that allows me to use his dealers license to purchase cars at auctions from time to time. I grew up in a Volvo wagon so have a soft spot for them. I sold my 2000 XC70 about 2 years ago, it was a great car, I used it like a truck, I built an outdoor fireplace, deck and many other projects and hauled every brick, stone and tons of lumber in the back of Volvo, they are called cavernous for a reason, I also helped my son move a dresser that he and the seller never thought would never fit in the XC70 but it did! After getting rid of it I realized how much I needed it and how useful it was so I began my search for an older 240 just to have around and play with and to bring back memories of our old 145. I found this at an auction a couple years ago and it appeared to be in great shape so I jumped on it. When I bought it it had very minor front end damage (picture below) all that was needed to repair it was a new headlight, there was also a dent in the filler panel between the bumper and the fender, that was hammered out but not professionally repaired (added a picture of this also) but because of this it was given a salvage title which it still has. I used to be able to re-title these to rebuilt titles but due to changes in the Texas inspection system I can no longer get just a "green slip" proving it passed inspection, you now have to actually insure and title it and since I have decided to sell instead of keep this does not make sense to do so I will include the necessary paper work for the new owner to run it through, it is very easy. Shortly after buying this I found a 2002 Land Rover with only 24,000 miles that I couldn't pass up so the Volvo just sat for a couple years, I realize now it is better off being used and enjoyed so I am passing it on to someone else! When I first bought the car it ran great but after sitting a couple years I wasn't sure so took it to a mechanic to go over it. Due to sitting the fuel system created some problems, we ended up replacing fuel pumps, filters, injectors and even the fuel tank. The entire A/C system was also overhauled, the driveshaft was replaced, the list goes on but I am adding pictures of a couple receipts so you can see the work that was done. The car runs a looks great now! The drives seat has some cracks (it is vinyl) but no tears, the rest of the interior is nearly perfect! The dash has a couple cracks as well but the rest of the interior is pretty much spotless for a 30 year old car, I don't think you can find one much cleaner! Tires are in good shape, a new stereo was just installed. The temperature gauge sometimes doesn't work but it seems to be a short in the wiring that should be an easy fix. Mileage is unknown, when I bought it the odometer was around 115,000 miles but wasn't working so I bought another used cluster with 145,000 miles but it doesn't work either (typical 240 problem) The engine bay is extremely clean, the car is rust free. The paint is a re-spray, probably several years old and is peeling on the passenger side fender (picture below) but the rest of the car is very presentable. The car runs great, cruises at 70 all day long and feels tight and comfortable doing so. There is cruise control on the stalk but it isn't working, might be as simple as a fuse, I will check that. I am starting the auction at way below what I have in it but I feel bad about not using it so it is time for it to go to a new home. |
