This 1973 Volvo 1800ES represents the last year of the only true production Volvo sports car, which was produced in a fastback coupe (P1800) and the sport wagon (1800ES), also called "Shooting Brake." This model was only made in 1972 and 1973, and it is very rare in that a total of only 8077 were produced, with few coming to the U.S. It is a superbly-handling, powerful 2.0 Liter fuel-injected wagon that provides both practicality and sport driving experience. This car has the highly desirable 4-speed with electronic overdrive which works perfectly. Volvo 1800's were made somewhat famous by Sir Roger Moore who drove one in the 1960-70's TV show "The Saint."
The styling of this Volvo was contracted out to Frua of Italy, buy in reality, a Swede, young Pelle Pettersen, had a heavy role in its design. It is very practical, having a flip-up rear glass hatch that is held by gas pressure struts, and the rear seat folds down to provide a long, carpeted load area.
NOTE on collectabiilty and valuation: A near-perfect example of a green 1973 Volvo 1800ES (sample model as this car) recently sold at national auction for over $92,000. See: https://www.hagerty.com/Articles-Videos/Articles/2014/09/02/Volvo-1800
