Description of 1939 Willys |
I bought this all-steel '39 Willys Overland 14 years ago with only 1,250 miles on it. I was looking for a driver (not a trailer queen) that I could comfortably travel around the country to car shows with. It now has 32,xxx miles and I've enjoyed every year with the car. The Willys Overland is a great choice because it has large rear seats and good trunk space (the gas tank is under the trunk). The car was well-built with a very durable and reliable drivetrain. I have been on the Hot Rod Power Tour numerous times and attended NSRA Nationals in Louisville 11 years (the car has also received an NSRA safety inspection). This is a super rare model with one-year-only style headlights and unique option tail lights thatwere found on only a percentage Overlands in the model year. When you're at a show with 10,000 cars and yours is the only one like it, it gets a lot of attention (also many comments of "What is it?"). The engine is a '71 Boss 351 Cleveland with 4 bolt mains, machined crank, hardened rods, 10.1 forged pistons, Manley stainless steel valves, Crane cam (280 duration 565 lift), and roller rockers/solid lifters. It has a high-volume chrome water pump, chrome 140 amp alternator, Edelbrock Torker intake, Edelbrock 750 cfm carb (with rare Edelbrock air cleaner), Accel billet distributor, MSD 6A ignition, ceramic coated headers, oil cooler, an electric fuel pump, and air conditioning. You'll love how it "starts right up" every time and sounds very healthy. The driveline consists of a Ford AOD (Automatic Overdrive) with shift kit, B & M shifter,Chrysler 8 3/4 posi rear end with 391 gears and drive shaft loop. The chassis has rack and pinion steering, a boxed frame, 4 wheel power disc brakes, andcoilover rear shocks. The frame was totally stripped, DP Epoxy, and painted to match the car. There is a custom skid plate under the oil pan to protect the engine while you're on the road. Tires are BF Goodrich (fronts are new) with a recent 4-wheel alignment.195/60/15 in the frontand275/60/15 in the rear. The body is all-steel including the fenders. During the build it was completely stripped, DP Epoxy inside and out, but does show a small amount of rust on the bottom edge of the passenger door by the running board. There are 2 small shrink spots in the paint, 1 on each rear fender where they attach to the body and 1 vertical paint crack on driver's side past the rear side window. The paint has been ceramic coated and shines like new. There is custom airbrush art on the rear trunk. "Life is good." If you don't like this, the panel can easily be repainted or you can have the art redone to match your taste. The interior features power windows, remote doors, A/Cand heater, Stereo with CD player, 2 power amps, equalizer, and 6 speakers. There is a GM tilt / telescopic steering column, billet steering wheel, Dakota Digital Dash, center console with storage, seat belts, 3rd brake light, newer interior door panels, and thefront seats show some minor color wear. I have a custom-made front end bra (included in sale) which I never got around to using, so there are some normal rock chips on the front end. Paint is a factory Ford color so it's easy to touch up or match. I'm selling the car due to recent medical problems. Great opportunity for a new owner and caretaker. Enjoy driving it and do whatever upgrades you like to make it "your car". Asking $44,900 Enclosed vehicle shipping is available at buyer's cost, my son has contacts in this industry |
