In 1976 the Los Angeles Fire Department purchased Gremlins for department use. This is one of those cars and literally the only one I have ever seen. The paint code on the door tag is "00" which indicates a special paint job-as you can well see. We have been able to verify it through pictures of the car in the back ground of movie/tv shows-I could not find any pics in the LAFD musem photos but they may have some. The car (or one just like it) can be seen in the background of the movie "Don't go near the park" and also a drive by in an episode of "L.A. Law" - no idea if this was the actual car and as I said, have no idea how many of these the city purchased. This is a California car so rust is not an issue. There is some in the lower doors near the front-easy repair-solid underneath. The car has a 232 6 cylinder and automatic transmission-the car runs great and shifts fine-the brakes work as well so this is a running drivable car. It has not been on the road since 2009 so a tune up and fresh gas are in order. The body paint is faded and there is misc. body damage in need of repair-nothing too major. The interior is in need of a complete redo-I have an extra dash pad and misc. dash parts that go with the car-there is no radio. This is a rubber floor mat car-no carpet. I also have the piece to replace the broken headlight bezel. All in all, very rare and unusual car just ripe for restoration-unique paint job from AMC. I can be reached at 701-205-6906 and have the right to end the auction early as I have the car for sale locally. Thank you.
