Description of 1968 Chevrolet Corvair |
I have this beautiful 1968 Chevy Corvair 500 2 door sport coupe with an automatic transmission up for auction.I am the third owner. I recently purchased this from an elderly fellow who bought it from the original owner. My intention was to restore it but due to health problems I won't be able to. I've owned it for about 1 month. This car has always been garage kept, was originally purchased new from Carl Schmidt Chevrolet in Perrysburg, Ohio. The original owner had it for 5 years and sold it to a fellow in Toledo, Ohio and he drove it to northern MI. where it's been ever since. He never drove it in the winter and has always kept it in his garage. He got old and parked it 12 years ago. Now his wife bought a new car and wanted to put it in the garage so this had to go.According to the guy I bought it from, it has 59.000 original miles. This is what the odometer shows too.All of the gaskets in the tranny and probably the engine also will need replacing. I had a towing company bring it to my house where I checked thee fluids and started it up and it started right up and I drove it into my garage. The guy gave me a box full of new transmission gaskets along with a brand new muffler and exhaust pipe which goes with the car.I do know that it leaks some oil. This is an unmolested car that would be a very easy restoration. I believe it's a vary rare Corvair as I see over 250,000 were made per yearPRIOR to 1968.Isee that only 15,000 were made in 1968 and most of them were 4 door cars with a 4 speed transmission. This is a 2 door car with the automatic with the shifter .on the dash. Anyone out in E-Bayland that has any more / better info. please let me know. This had an Earl Sheib paint job in 1971 and it still looks quite nice.I also have a stack of paperwork, manuals etc. that will go with the purchase of this car.I do see a few dings in this car along with the front left fender that has been spray painted with a rattle can, (SEE LAST PICTURE) . This fender is the worst part of the car. Otherwise this looks to be a very nice clean car with no rust at all that I can see. This will have to be trailored or towed from here. Some tinkering and a person would have a very nice Corvair. Please feel free to ask any questions as I'm always happy to help in any way I can. Once the car is paid for in full I can store it for quite some time.I'm always happy to answer any questions quickly and honestly. Please check out the pictures and ask if you'd like more BEFORE BIDDING. I would like a NON REFUNDABLE $500.00 payment put in my Paypal within 24 hours of the auctions end. The rest paid in cash or a certified check or money order at time of pick up or shipping. I have the title in hand. This car will have to be picked up in the upper peninsula of Michigan. we're located a BEAUTIFUL 5 hour drive northwest of the Mackinaw Bridge. It's also the PERFECT time of the year to see this part of the country.High bidder is to line up and pay for any shippin, I'll do what I can on this end to help load it but I do have a heart problem which makes it difficult to physically work. Thanks for looking and even more thanks for bidding. |
