Description of 1977 Chevrolet Blazer |
For sale: 1977 Chevy K5 Blazer Cheyenne dry western survivor, never seen salt. Built at Fremont CA and sold new in arid south central Oregon at Bob Frink Chevrolet in Ashland, near the Oregon-California border. This K5 was special ordered by a Medford-area gentleman with just about every option, including tow package to tow his color-matching boat, at a cost of just under $9000. He kept great care of the truck, always garaged, pampering it until 2002, when he sold to a local retired fireman who was equally meticulous. In 2007 it was sold to an older guy from Montana, who flew out to Oregon and drove it home. I purchased from him, the third owner, a little over 2 years ago. All owners have garaged this truck, it's never been stored outside. Now that I've found the 454 Squarebody K30 that I've been searching for, the K5 needs to go to free up a garage stall. Included with the truck is a thick file with about every bit of paperwork since new. Original purchase documents, build sheet, warranty papers, manual, brochures, receipts, original dealer plate frame, it's all there. I've spoken on the phone to all three owners, this is a well-documented, sorted, no-stories truck that's never been abused. I'll do my best to describe this unique and special truck below, PLEASE see the Photobucket album link with over 70 pics including the underside lower in the description. Exterior: Very nice, truck was repainted the original color around 2002 and still shines well. Some years later the driver side front fender was repainted after an encounter with a mailbox, and it doesn't match perfectly in certain light. Casual observers won't notice, but car show nitpickers might. Glass is good, moldings also very good. Really no major faults. An exterior antenna was added on passenger front fender. Roof was originally white, but was changed to black for a sharper look. Straight truck with no noticeable dents/dings, and very dry with no major rust issues. I'd say 98 percent rust free. A few small surface rust blemishes in passenger doorwell, but really only one spot a couple inches long on passenger floor that would need any kind of attention. I treated that area with a converter product and it's been fine, but you'll want to repair it or undercoat that at some point - I didn't cover anything up with paint or undercoat. Very clean and original underneath, and frame and body mounts look beautiful. I really doubt you'd find another this dry at this stage of the game, some 40 years later. PLEASE see linked Photobucket album for pics including underside.
Interior: Nice and all original, save for front seats reupholstered and headliner replaced. Original dashpad has a couple very thin small cracks in the speaker grille - not noticeable at all and you have to look hard to see them. Original carpets are worn in a few spots under floor mats. The original owner told me he installed full carpet shields when new, and that preserved them. No major faults, overall clean enough that even the wife likes riding in it. Original paint on console is scuffed, could use repaint. Additional holes for speakers as shown, full sound system was installed by second owner at substantial cost and it sounds great. I think everything works save for A/C and dome light, all A/C components are there and it blows cool but not ice cold. Even rear window works. Ready to use and enjoy.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well with 400 engine and automatic with power steering (tilt) and power front disc brakes. I've used it the last couple of years for a weekend driver and for cruise nights, and really enjoy it. Kudos to the previous owners who provided meticulous care over the years! Rebuilt engine was installed at 96684 miles, receipt included, total mileage on the truck is 160k mostly highway miles. Pulls strong and sounds healthy, RV cam and Edelbrock carb and intake were added along with transmission shift kit. Receipts are included for just about all work done on the truck since day one. I think everything works save for A/C and dome light, all A/C components are there and it blows cool but not ice cold. A few oil leaks, but nothing horrible. Probably could use choke adjustment as it runs rougher cold than when warmed up. 31x11.50 tires are in good condition. A couple things I've done were new stainless Flowmaster exhaust and new heater core. Smooth, tight driver that's ready to use and enjoy as is. Keep in mind that old trucks are not perfect and do need work from time to time, so if you haven't messed around with vintage trucks, adjust your expectations accordingly.
Pricing/Misc: This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell. It runs and drives fine, but flying in and driving it home probably isn't advisable, it's an old truck, and Montana is a huge state with many remote areas with no cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, I will drive truck to meet your transporter and help load it. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine. Truck can stay here for 30 days, after that $100/month storage will be due.
