Description of 1987 Citroën 2CV6 Special |
1987 602cc 2cv imported from an auto mechanic in Germany in 2015. Good running condition, occasionally driven in the rolling Texas Hill Country only on dry days. It's a head turner and fun to drive, although the 75+ mph speed limits are a challenge to get up to on this 2 cylinder 'powerhouse'. Great attraction for local parades and driving around town. This was manufactured during the last year of the French built 2 cv's before production went to Portugal and the quality went down, spelling the end of this iconic model. It has a clear Texas certificate of title which was quite a challenge to get from the original German title & paperwork that came with it. I've never driven it in the rain and it appears the original German owner kept it well cared for as well. Parts are readily available from a supplier in the state of Washington who knows these models intimately. A parts catalog with contact info is included. I haven't had to do much work to it and have extra parts which include a full tune up kit, brake pads, oil filters, front grill, touch up paint, etc. I've replaced the starter motor, alternator, coil, headlight lamps, wiper blades, window catch clamp, new under hood firewall cover, new battery and some other miscellaneous smaller items. There's a hand crank included in case the battery goes out as well. Overall, not much to do on these and repairs are refreshingly simple as they were in the old days. There are some spots with minor rust on the body. These could be sanded out and touched up, or perhaps a new paint job would be in order. I held off doing that as there's some very cool stickers that came from the original German owner that are now faded and peeling a bit (see photos), but didn't want to give these up myself. The side mirrors should be replaced as they wiggle around a bit. The radio/cd player isn't hooked up, just need to get the correct wiring harness or play around with the ones that are included to get it powered up. *Actual mileage is unknown although the speedometer shows ~ 22,700 km. The Michelin tires do have some dry out cracks starting, so it would be good to replace with a new set. Sad to see this go but I don't drive it enough. It was a present for my wife who passed some years back. She loved driving it to work and it attracted many visitors sitting out in front of the shop she worked in. |
