Description of 1961 Ford Galaxie |
Recently acquired from the widow of an older gentleman who had owned the car for the past 28 years, his rare and desirable 61 Galaxie Starliner is just waiting to be taken to the next level.. The car is all there, retty solid with minimal cancer and runs and drives with a newer drivetrain. Originally equipped with a 352 and a 3 speed auto it now runs a newer big block and a replacement auto trans. I have the original engine and trans and was told by the owner that the current motor and trans were installed 4 years ago but never driven due to the impending illness of the husband. That was also the last time the car was registered for street use. The motor and trans look fresh along with the distributor, ires, olley carb and Hedman shorty headers .I cannot verify if the replacement motor is a 428, 90, r 352. I've had a couple Ford gurus tell me the heads need to be pulled to be certain but they would guess it's a 390. The motor starts up with the turn of the key and sounds good although quite loud due to the open exhaust. Wheels and tires are 15x7 and 15x8 Americans with Cooper flipped white letter radials that still have the blue coating on the white letters on the inside. The body is perfectly straight and all gaps are original with what appears to have one very old repaint that is shot. There are no signs of any old body work or filler anywhere, here is some cancer in the corners of the doors on the outside and in front and behind the rear tires but the fenders, rockers, heel houses and floors are solid. The trunk floor does need some patchwork also but the drop offs and trunk lid are solid. All the stainless trim, rille and tail panel trim are very nice. Bumpers and any other chrome potmetal pieces are original so there is some pitting to them. Glass is all very good and all windows roll up and down nicely. The interior is going to need seat covers and door panels seeing as how the previous owner installed some handmade panels that just aren't correct. Looks like he covered the dash pad and rear shelf with the same vinyl. It looks good but just not correct for the car. This car has been sitting unused for a number of years and although it is driveable, would not recommend doing any long distance cruising without doing a full service including the brakes and all fluids and check the points, ondenser etc.The column shifter is a little spongy for my taste and probably needs new bushings on the linkage. These are old cars and they don't drive like new so expect to find qwerks thar need addressing. Starliners, eing only produced in 60 and 61, re highly sought after by collectors. One day this car will be either a period correct restored street fighter or a high end restmod cruiser, Finding one like this that has not already been restored so you can build it to your own taste is an opportunity that may not happen again. Buy it now while it's available. Don't pass on it. You may never see another one this affordable. Sold as is with no warranty Clear Arizona title..I do not have a buy it now price and don't ask what the reserve is. I have more pictures available showing the trouble areas of the body if intersted. Please call and ask questions. Don't buy it and whine later.about things you didn't know. 480 209 0295 Don |
