Description of 1963 Ford Thunderbird

I’m Dennis Gage. the handlebar mustachioed host of the TV show “My Classic Car”. and this is one of my personal cars. I love Thunderbirds and have owned a number of them. I currently have three. This one is a very solid. rust-free California car. and I’ve owned it for roughly 20 years. It has always lived in a climate-controlled building. The odometer shows 87. xx miles. and the 390 engine and Cruise-O-Matic transmission are strong and smooth with no issues. It is a rare factory single exhaust. It has the “fly-away” steering wheel and functional AC altho it would probably need a Freon charge. It has a new set of whitewall radials with less than 200 miles on them. I only drive this car a few times a year. Its original paint color was Champagne (58). but is was repainted by a previous owner. The color is not a T-bird color. but it closely resembles (and may be) Ford’s Spruce Green Metallic. It's a really good color on the car. and it perfectly matches the interior which is called “Light gold crinkle vinyl and medium gold Vachette vinyl” (Trim code – I). but is really more of a green. The paint is very good overall altho there are some areas that require touchup. The interior is in very good condition with the only issues being a small split in the driver’s seat bottom. some cracks in the passenger door armrest. and the carpet on the front passenger’s side is degraded due to a leaky windshield seal. It only leaked enough to screw up the carpet. The floorpan is still solid. I have a new windshield gasket from Dennis Carpenter and a new carpet set for the entire car from Larry’s Thunderbirds. I have a set of armrests from ebay and a set of entire door panel covers. I also have a new set of rear leaf springs and front coils from Eaton Detroit Spring. All of these things come with the car The driver’s power seat doesn’t work. but this may just be the switch. The rear driver’s-side power window recently stopped functioning. but this is not uncommon with these cars when they sit for a long time. It’s usually just a matter of removing the motor. cleaning it up. and reinstalling it. All interior chrome. aluminum and stainless is in good shape. Exterior chrome has some pitting and the rear bumper has pitting and surface rust. Still. this car shows very well. It’s a classic “20 footer”. From 20 feet away. it looks really good! It’s a joy to drive. and it just floats down the road. It also turns heads. It’s a perfect candidate for restoration or customization. but it’s also a sharp cruiser or driver just as it is. The car is also listed locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells. If you have any questions. feel free to email me at dgage@MyClassicCar. com
