Description of 1968 Ford F-250 |
For sale: 1968 Ford F-250 4x4 Custom highboy western survivor. Purchased new at Walt Housley Ford in Pullman, WA and lived life in high desert of southern Idaho's Weiser valley. Same owner for 50 years, 1968-2018. Complete documentation and history including original sales contract/order form, warranty card, manuals, dealer paperwork, original title, maintenance history, receipts, log book, dealer stamped sales brochure and handwritten notes the original owner made along the way. Definitely the most complete documentation I've ever seen. Unique ranch history and features including custom bumpers, cowboy hat holder, necker knob, and monogrammed leather pistol holster with the original owner's initials. Original jack, jacking tools and spare tire carrier. I'll do my best to describe this special truck below, PLEASE see the Photobucket album link with 100 pics including the underside in the description, and links to four YouTube videos, two walk around and two driving. Exterior: Looks great from 20 feet and draws plenty of interest wherever I stop. Repainted 7-21-1990 in the original color according to the log book. Would need respray for show duty. Paint has been touched up along the way, and there are a few small spots the original owner sprayed textured paint on - see linked Photobucket album. I had a professional body shop repair small rust spots at bottom of both front fenders and one spot on passenger door. There are a few areas where rust is present, but thankfully the Weiser valley where this truck called home is arid, I'd say the truck is 95 percent rust free. There are a few small blisters at bottom of driver door, and back of cab at passenger side, and at front of box seam. Truck was undercoated when new (at a cost of $35.00, per the documentation) and cab mounts and floors look good. Doors don't sag and close right. Over the years, mud built up on the underside cab supports and drop-offs and there is rust present there - again see pics. New windshield and back glass with new gaskets. Of course we don't see frame rot here out here out west, also hood hinge areas look great. Side doors on box were for auxiliary gas tanks, which have since been removed. There are a few small holes in box where toolboxes were once mounted. Just a nice clean driver quality truck. Interior: All original in decent survivor condition. Dash pad and original seat upholstery have cracks under the covers. Original floor mat and headliner still intact. Nice enough for the wife to ride in, no smells. Glass is good and I think everything works, right down to the 8 track player. Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well. Original 360 was professionally replaced 12-9-89 with a rebuilt 1970 429 Thunderjet engine at a cost of $2700 ($5600 in today's dollars). Specs out at 360 bhp and 480 ft lbs torque. Engine is in excellent condition with approximately 50k miles on it now. No smoke, noise, or leaks, great oil pressure, and it pulls like a freight train. Compression was dropped to run on modern fuel, doesn't ping or heat, and has an RV cam with a nice lope. Recent work in the last year includes new brakes, shocks, axle seals, hubs, tune up, front end alignment, battery, and Flowmaster exhaust. Receipts included for that work. New radial traction 10 ply tires. 4x4 works in high and low range, transmission shifts fine but is noticeably noisy going down the road, mechanic says it will need rebuild "someday" - so figure that in when bidding. Ready to use as is on the ranch or runs to Home Depot. 8000lb Ramsey PTO winch is currently not in service, original owner had to remove front shaft for clearance when he upgraded to desert cooling super duty radiator. Front shaft was set aside and lost and I don't have it. To put the winch back in service you'll need to replace radiator and have a shaft built. Overall a good running truck that can be driven and enjoyed while you take it to the next level. If you've been looking lately, you already know that prices on 67-72 highboys have reached the stratosphere. The last two survivor 68-69 Highboys on Bringatrailer.com sold for $28k and $30k respectively, here's one of them: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1968-ford-f-250-4x4-2/ A restored 69 Highboy just sold at Mecum Harrisburg 2019 for $77k. This truck might be a good alternative to spending that kind of money. Truck runs and drives, but flying in and driving it home isn't a great idea, as Montana is a huge state with many remote areas with no cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, I will drive truck to meet your transporter and help load it. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine.
