Description of 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 |
The 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is already a legend on its own. This is the year the factory raised the displacement, and this one even has added go-fast goodies! Plus, this has a highly correct-style presentation with plenty of original components. Even the ultra-low odometer is even believed to reflect actual mileage. So it's a true hot commodity classic with everlasting appeal. The original generation Shelby GT350 is one of the most sought-after Mustangs around because it was never bashful about its sense of speedy style. And that only got more aggressive on the later cars, like this '68. The custom fiberglass hood, functional side scoops, spoiler rear deck lid, and the sequential taillights - it all makes an impressive statement. Plus, everyone already loves a Wimbledon White Mustang, so to have the factory-correct application updated a few years ago gives this the kind of gloss you can be proud to show off. The blue rocker triple stripe is a Shelby hallmark and is a nod to America's racing legacy. This true GT350 gets the details right with the hood locks, Lucas fog lights, snake-bitten badges (including on the gas cap,) and iconic Shelby 10-spoke alloy wheels with the correct-style Goodyear Speedway small letter tires. So yes, they really took the time to keep this one looking correct. Even the undercarriage is finished in the correct red oxide. One of the easiest ways to believe this is a low mileage car is with a look at the interior. We are hard pressed to see anything that has been replaced in this time capsule. It's just complete, clean, and with a hint of patina/use so people really understand this is a classic presentation. These Shelbys were a fine place to spend some time because they received the Mustang's deluxe interior with some special additions. This means features like wood grained appliques on the door, dash, center console, and steering wheel. Even the center armrest still has the coiled snake emblem embossed in it. This car even has the rare Tilt-Away steering option! A folding rear seat, overhead roll bar, and shoulder harnesses are all Shelby must-haves. Plus, the large tach and floor shifter are a nice reminder that premium and performance can go hand-in-hand. The '68 GT350 was upgraded to the portent 302 cubic-inch V8. The motor you're looking at is believed to be a replacement block from Ford, and it has the correct casting to be an early and correct GT350 Ford replacement motor. Plus, the upgrade to a Comp Cam 271H camshaft really gives an extra attitude to this speedy Shelby. The V8 inhales deeply with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and it makes a sweet sound out of the dual exhaust. As you follow the pipes in the undercarriage photos, you'll see a car that is both fresh and correct. The four-speed manual transmission is believed to be original to the car, and it means you're in complete control over the V8 power and muscular soundtrack. Plus, there's power steering, power brakes w/discs up front, and wide Cooper Cobra tires make this snake-bitten Mustang great to drive. An important car like this needs the right paperwork to back it up. That's why the sale comes with the deluxe Marti Report, factory buildsheet, owner's manual, and maintenance records. This is the well-done rare classic that has the right amount of originality and right fresh investments to keep it a terrific driver. So if you're a true enthusiast, call now! |
