Marcus 406-360-8628MECHANICAL - The Ford Truck chassis has several advantages including LARGER brakes and better steering components. This year has the mechanical brakes and levers in-tact. I have found these to be much more reliable and easier to revive than old hydraulic systems that suffer constant leaks and bleeding troubles. This truck looks to be all-original with the factory 221 Flathead V-8 4-speed and optional PTO Power Take Off which runs the Galion Hydraulic Dumping Hoist. HISTORY - This truck is believed to have been used by the U.S. Government to build the Great Falls Army Air Base in 1942. The truck has an original 1943 Montana license plate on the rear (they were made small to conserve metal). The heads were updated during the service life and one head is date-stamped 5-12-41 the other is 3-23-44. It would have been virtually impossible to get a new head in 1944 unless the truck was being actively used and maintained by the U.S. Government in the war effort. The air base was used to fly supplies and equipment to Russia via Alaska. 1717712 pounds of cargo containing everything from tools to explosives were shipped through Great Falls Army Air Base to the Soviet Union. After the war it was sold to a local farmer as surplus war goods.Vehicle is about 16.5 ft long 6.5 ft wide 6 ft tall and about 5000 lbs.
