Description of 1957 GMC Other |
For sale: Rare 1957 GMC Napco 4x4, running and driving survivor from the high desert of Montana, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. The gentleman I purchased this truck from owned it 40 years. Real deal truck with real patina. I think this is a factory built NAPCO based on the 5600 GVW on the door plate. NAPCO branded front axle and transfer case are still present and the hole in the floor for transfer case lever looks factory. Transfer case crossmember supports are riveted, not bolted. Honest western truck with only minimal rust. See linked Photobucket album for detail pics inluding undercarriage. These NAPCO truck are the stuff of legend, able to climb any mountain - check out this cool promotional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5LYTkRjdno Exterior: Just the right patina to draw a crowd at Cars N Coffee or Home Depot. Pretty straight with the normal dings and scratches from years of ranching, hunting, and camping. Minimal rust thanks to dry western climate - some at bottoms of fenders and back of cab bottom corners, floors and undercarriage look good and area above window where Task Force trucks usually rust looks great. Driver door hinges are worn and door doesn't latch closed easily. 16" rims on the truck with hubcap clips look to be the original wheels. There's a steel plate covering the wood bed floor but wood looks mostly intact. Great project for full restoration or leave the patina and work on making it better as you go. Interior: Presentable survivor, sun baked but complete. Seat isn't original, looks like most everything else is. Floors look great. Door panels had upholstery added to the upper panel but it could be easily removed. Passenger side window needs regulator but an extra one is included. Gauge panel is sun faded. Steering column collar is just hanging there, needs turn signal switch. Overall complete and intact truck that's ready for further sorting. Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives. The truck sat for many years and I took it to a professional mechanic for a checkup. Fuel tank was drained and flushed, brakes bled, and fluids and grease zerks checked. Will need further sorting as you drive and enjoy. Original GMC six was replaced with the bulletproof Chevy 235 stovebolt many years ago, don't have original engine. 235 engine seems to be fine with no noticeable smoke. We didn't do full tuneup so plan on that - also starter growls so will need replacement at some point. 4x4 works in low and high range. Truck has the typical old 4x4 drips, but no horrible leaks. One of the factory hubs has been replaced with afermarket. Take to the next level with full restoration or drive and improve as you go. Pricing/Misc: If you've been looking for an early Napco, you know prices are already very high and increasing. Most of these trucks you see for sale are either restored or rotted hulls - the working survivors are few and far between. I personally sold a 58 Napco in similar condition last summer right here on Ebay for $15k. This truck is NO RESERVE and it will sell. LINK TO ADDITIONAL PICS INCLUDING UNDERSIDE (copy and paste) - pics in this online album, just ask if you need more. Photobucket site is clunky with many popups, just close them all and you should see pics. May want to use the firefox browser. I'm looking for a new hosting site currently. http://s261.photobucket.com/user/burgundyamx/library/57Napco?sort=3&page=1 ****Shipping will be from Helena, MT. I-15 and I-90 both very near, transport is reasonable. Zip code for shipping quote use 59601***** This rig runs and drives, but flying in and driving it long distance isn't a good option. Montana is a huge state and it's a long way between towns. In many areas there are few services and poor cell coverage. Truck transport for this rig isreadily available and affordable. Montana title isclear with no liens in my name. After the sale, I can store the truck for up to 30 days free, after that $100 per month storage will be due. Buyer needs to get insurance as soon as car is paid for as I will cancel mine at that time.
