These cars were intially borne of a special design of a one-off car for Edsel Ford himself. The public so well-received the car that it went into production shortly after. There were only 850 coupes and 400 convertible/cabriolets produced in the first production year of 1941. This example features a host of recent work performed including the front end aligned. the engine tuned up. the tie rod ends/drag links replaced. the radiator hoses replaced. the charging generator rebuilt. the gas tank removed & lined. a new sending unit & fuel pump installed. the fuel lines cleaned. the carburetor rebuilt and more. Although a lot of recent restoration work has been performed. the car is still in need of further repairs. The original radio is not working. nor is the clock. Also. the overdrive function is not working. The spotlight neesd a bulb replaced. The handle for the front cowl vent needs work as well. The interior has been restored while the dash retains beautiful factory instrumentation and controls throughout. The pushbutton start button still works as well. the 3-speed manual transmission shifts through the gears as it should and the V-12 has a great sound and is torque-responsible. The factory brightwork is intact and shows well. The front & rear bumpers have been rechromed. The wheels of choice are the factory 15-inch wheels fitted with the correct hubcaps. beauty rings & a set of H-78 x 15 Broadway Wide Whitewall Tires. The wheelbase is 125-inches. Although the Continental shared its wheelbase with the Zephyr. styling was distinctively different. Open the doors to 1941. The interior showcases very nice restored leather upholstery front & back. The door panels were restored to match. The headliner has also been replaced along with the carpeting. The dash retains its original instrumentation throughout. including the functional speedometer. Art Deco design elements are prevalent. especially in the gauges. An aftermarket oil pressure gauge has been installed under the dash. however the original oil pressure gauge appears to be functional as well. The steering wheel is original and just stunning in our opinion. patina and all. The original rim blow horn is not working. The upholstery is in just beautiful condition front to back as are the door panels. The 322 cubic inch V8 runs smooth. The carburetor was recently rebuild and the engine given a basic tune up with replaced spark plugs. tc. The fuel pump has also been replaced. The gas tank was removed and lined. The fuel lines have been flushed and cleaned. The charging generator has been rebuilt and the voltage regulator replaced. Also. the battery was replaced. This is a good running engine. The 3-speed manual transmission shifts through the gears as it should. 1st. 2nd. and 3rd. including reverse. Although this is an overdrive car. the overdrive function is not working at this time. The undercarriage appears overall solid. the frame and flooring look to be in very good condition throughout. displaying only surface rust. The door undersides are solid as well. The push button door handles are functional. The windows roll up and down correctly. The glass and trim is in good condition throughout. The windshield wipers are not functional. The door hinges are exposed on these Continentals. The spare tire/wheel is rear mounted and is the granddaddy of the "Continental Kit" The trunk is clean and detailed. finished out.
