These 560SL's from the late 80's are just that kind of collectable. They were built back in the "traditional" era of Mercedes Benz, before all the computer driven systems were put in place. These Benz Roadsters from this era will be on the road long after the computer cars lose their support and end up in the salvage yard with all the old computers we throw away. This car is being sold for a friend. This is a stellar, turn-key original automobile. This is a solid #2+ to #1 condition vehicle that needs nothing and runs perfectly. Being that it is mostly a survivor I would call it a #1 for its overall amazing original condition. Only in Southern CA can a car live its life and maintain that factory fresh feel and appearance. This is a Two Owner Southern CA, Mercedes Benz. The car was purchased new in Southern CA and has remained here its entire life. In 1991 it fell into the hands of a "car gal" collector type, where it stayed for 28 years, while only driven about 12K miles during that time. She is what I would classify as a car "freak" and a master at keeping a car maintained to perfection. This car does not look like it has ever spent a day of its life out in the light. Everyday and night has been spent in a garage; minimal time out in the sunlight of day. The Exterior, Interior, Wheels and Under the Hood all look absolutely Brand New. There are no dings or scratches to this gorgeous automobile. This vehicle is in absolutely flawless condition and needs nothing. There is an extensive book of records proving the mileage to be accurate. Also the Carfax shows all the smogs with mileage since 1991. Body & Paint The Body is a 9.8 out of 10, not one flaw on it anywhere. I cannot find one ding or one scratch on this vehicle. Every panel is near flawless and original and looks to NEVER had any bodywork. There are a grouping of "shut-line" pictures giving testament to the exacting fit to the body of this SL. The paint is in excellent shape and is mirror like on every panel. I would rate the paint as a 9.5 out of 10. Note: In looking at the pictures I would say the second picture from down (below this writeup) of the side view with tree in the background is the truest color to the cars daylight finish color. I took the "top-down" pictures near dusk on a very sunny day and the light was changing very quickly and some of the pictures look almost too dark. The "hardtop-on" pictures were taken at the same location but with very little sunlight on an overcast morning. You can see the differences in the way the color changes depending on the light. I would call this a very "medium" gray metallic color. And with the Light Brown/Java interior makes for a gorgeous color combo on this 560SL. The factory stainless trim around the windows is in pristine condition and not faded or discolored like most of these cars I have seen from this era. The Chrome bumpers are in excellent shape as well as the bumper rubber extensions; no cracking or fading present. The Chrome Factory Wheels are a 9.9 out of 10 and have no abrasions. The Factory Sekurit Glass is present and in excellent condition in the doors and hardtop. The front windshield has been replaced and in perfect unmarked condition. This SL was simply a weekend, special occasion car, that for the last 28 years has only gathered but 12K miles, completely documented. Interior The interior on this classic roadster is simply as nice as it gets, I would rate it a 9.5 out of 10. The carpets, mats, seats, dash, wood and door panels are all immaculate. The headliner in the hardtop is near perfection. The seats are firm and comfortable, just like new. The pictures with the top down with all the light coming into the car almost make the seats look like a different color than the door cards.. while in fact they are a perfect match in color. The wood console is in near perfect condition, as is the headliner. The dash has zero cracking and is a testament to the easy indoor life it has lived. Drive-Train The mechanics on this car are perfect and the engine is smooth and responsive just like the day it was bought. She has driven the car on a regular basis; starting it and driving it occasionally to keep it in top working order. Between 1991 and 2019 the car was driven about 12K miles. All service records are included with the car during that time. Total receipts is over $19K; all included in a folder with the car. There is a list of all those records at the end of this write-up, except for smogs which are all listed on the CarFax. There are some pictures near the end of the photo list showing a sampling of the recent service records. In 2017 the AC was completely gone through, including a new condenser. The transmission shifts like it is brand new; it was removed and renewed roughly 1500 miles ago. The car drives down the road straight and true with no shimmy's, rattles or problems of any sort. The entire front-end has been gone through recently. It also sports a new set of Koni shocks all the way around and brand new Michelin Defender tires. The brakes front and rear have all been completely replaced within the last 2000 miles. Driving these SL's from this era is truly fun as they have that old German road feel to them. The ride quality is superb as well it handles like a sports car should. The motor and transmission work magically together in this little gem; powerful and smooth. Undercarriage The Undercarriage is immaculate and dry. There is no signs of rust or any leaks of any kind. All the original undercoating is still in place from the factory. All the suspension parts are like new and work to Mercedes specs. Upper control arms, lower ball joints and tie rods were all recently replaced, including a new steering dampener. A full four wheel alignment was done at the same time. The radio works, and is a brand new system with Bluetooth and phone connectivity. You can play your music via IOS or Android. The windows work perfectly, the wipers, the cruise control and every single system in this car works like the day it came out of the factory. The car is turnkey, it needs nothing and is ready to go. If you are looking for one of the finest examples on the planet from the final classic era of Mercedes Benz SL's, you just found it. These vehicles are just starting to be recognized and have a long way to go in Collector Valuation. The 560SL is THE ONE to own as it is the most elegant and reliable of the SL series, before and aft. If you are in the Southern California area and would like to experience the car, we would look forward to it.
