1960 Hansa 2 Door Saloon Goliath project car California Black Plate RARE?

Thanks for taking a look at our 1960 Hansa 1100 2 door Saloon winter project car.

The Goliath was built by the German company Borgward from 1957 to 1961. It was quite the engineering marvel of its day with a water cooled aluminum boxer engine, ront wheel drive and a 4 speed transmission. Subaru eventually co opted this design and has done quite well with it.

This is the transition model produced in 1960 as the company evolved its brand name from Goliath to Hansa. Both names appear on the car, oliath at the leading edge of the hood and Hansa on the rear quarters. The 1960 model also received the popular sharp tail fins from the 1959 Sport Coupe.

This project was purchased here in California where it appears to have spent the majority, f not all, f it's life. It still wears both original California Black license plates. Rust is minimal as expected. The engine has been removed but a vast quantity of spares are included along with the block, istons, ylinder heads, tc. The interior is largely complete.

This solid Hansa Project would be a great candidate for a restoration to it's original 1960 persona. Certainly, ou would rarely, ikely ever, un into another. We've found many shared parts between the Hansa and VW cars of the same vintage. Hansa parts are available here on ebay, ncluding an engine gasket set..

Note that although this car appears to be a Coupe, rue Coupes of the era did not have back seats. This 2 door is a "Saloon"due to the rear seat and room for four.

Exterior.

Nice patina overall with visible minor surface rust. Minor damage to the left rear quarter panel. Decent glass. Good spares including decklid.

Wheels Tires

Factory steel wheels with shop quality tires. Needs full restoration.

Engine

Not in the car but included. 1194 cc water cooled boxer style, luminum block, arrels and heads.

4 Speed transaxle

Present and still installed in the car. Condition unknown

Braking/Steering

Appears complete but needs attention. Good spares.

Service

None, roject car.

Trim

Please review the pictures closely as many loose parts are included. Some of the parts in the pictures may go to another car but ample spares are included.

Interior

Original. Many bits are there. Nice original gauges and steering wheel. Interior needs restoration but has good bones.

Odometer

The odometer shows 85831 miles. This is a five digit odometer and is potentially beyond it's capacity to measure. True mileage therefore, s unknown. Realistically, he miles are probably correct as a 85000 mile rebuild of a 1960 engine is pretty normal.

Title

Bill of Sale only, o title. California VIN verification completed. Two Black California license plates included. California title can be obtained for an additional fee. Vin check done. There is no longer a record of the car in the California DMV system so there are no back fees due.

Documentation

OEM owners manual included with notes from the original owner. We also have an original Goliath factory repair manual in it's OEM 3 ring binder. It is printed in German, nglish and French. This item is not for sale but if the buyer wants a digital copy we can work something out to get it copied. It is a couple of hundred pages of text, iagrams and photos with lots of handwritten notes. A gold mine to anyone looking to restore this car.

Please keep in mind that this is a used car....a 65 year old used car. It is not a concours trailer queen and will not be fresh and perfect like that new soul sucking camry your aunt betty drives.
