Description of 1968 International Harvester Scout |
A beautifully restored 1968 International Scout 800A with a perfectly clean new old stock engine. Runs strong. turns heads. A time capsule from 1968 with a front disc brake upgrade and a restoration done by a real master with none of the steroid injected nonsense that people do to these amazing vehicles. Overview: 1968 Scout 800A. nbsp;4WD. nbsp;3 Speed Manual. 96 IH 4 Cylinder Engine. nbsp;Dana 20 Transfer Case. nbsp;Dana 44 Rear with 4. 10. nbsp;Dana 25 Front with 4. 10. nbsp;Warn Locking HubsEngine: This Scout has a 196 4 Cylinder New Old Stock Motor with about 600 miles on it. The engine was meant for a Scout II 196 so generates more HP than the original engine. It came with Electronic Ignition already installed. Everything is new on this motor. It has the Weber carb. Regulated Alternator conversion has been done. It features a Holly Electric Fuel Pump for reliability. The Radiator was re-cored. Of course all the hoses are new as well. Runs strong as hell. Suspension and body mounts: The leafs are all original. but it has rebuilt shackles and spring eye rubber. All the body mounts are new poly with new hardware. Brakes: Brakes are all new front to back including a new master cylinder installed with the front disc break upgrade that was done in October 2014. All the brake lines and hoses are new as well as the wheel cylinders. You can have the front drum brakes which were newly installed by the previous owner right before I bought it. I can put the box in the back when your shipper picks it upTransmission and Transfer Case: The transmission was rebuilt with new seals all the way through. It is a 3-speed. The Transfer case is a Spicer 18 original and it has been rebuilt as well. New front drive shaft and good rear drive shaft with new U-Joints. Warn Locking Hubs up front. The front and rear axles still work great with no noise. Shifts easily into 4 Low or High. It has a new clutch that was the larger 11" version and hard to find and works great. Interior: The interior has new marine grade vinyl on all the seats. IH seat belts up front and Aviation Style in the back that can be adjusted for kids or adults. Original seat in the rear is in the correct location. The Scout did not have a good floor. so all the old rusty metal was cut out and a custom square tube bed support and OEM stamped floor was installed. All the sheet metal that needed replaced was replaced and strengthened. It is much more solid than the factory sheet metal. That floor and supports will be there for a long time. There were a few patch panels welded in the floors and behind the seats. They were sealed with POR15 and Lined on top to prevent rust. All the gauges are new and the speedometer works with a newly installed cable. The temp and oil gauge work. but read high since the alternator was converted. A voltage reducer may correct this. Both tank sending units work and the fuel gauge works with the switch for each side. It has the original radio that works great. Gas Tanks: New MTS sending units and poly tanks on both sides. You have to fill manually unless you have an older slow pump in your neighborhood or one that allows you to squeeze the pump trigger half way like I do in the town where I live. I just fill them with a jug so not to get it on the paint. Exterior: The Scout has a nice paint job. Down the road you might consider investing in a high dollar paint job if you wanted to show it but this Scout turns heads wherever I drive it. Everyone loves the color combo. It is the original Aztec Green Metallic in a base/clear. Looks awesome with the tan soft top. This Scout has the rare spare tire carrier with matching spare. It also has the original hubcaps and vintage radial tires that are new. All the badges are new except the front one. The bumpers were re-chromed front and back. It has a new Softopper TopIt has a new top that can be folded back or all the window rolled up. It has a nice cover for when you lower it. The frame bolts to the Scout with no screws and is all Aluminum so it does not rust. A great top and looks awesome. I will ship it with the hard top in place (hard top needs some minimal restoration and is in pretty good shape with only a tiny bit of surface rust and a few little pin hole spots. I just bought the full set of new rubber ready for you to install. The hard top will be bolted on with foam to prevent damage to the scout. but you’ll probably want to switch to the soft top for summer and get the new rubber installed (it will be in a box inside the Scout) and paint to the topThis is a good driving. riding Scout. It handles well on the road for a Scout 800. It likes to go about 50-55 but it can be pushed to 65 MPH if you want. It rattles with the tire carrier (I never bothered to find the spot and put a piece of hard foam back there to stop it) and is noisy at highway speeds like a Scout should be. That is part of the charm of this vintage utility vehicle. It also a very capable off road vehicle that will go anywhere. It is low and geared right for the task. Please let me know if you have any questions about this beautiful Scout. Thanks for looking and good luck. $1000 Non refundable deposit due immediately at the end of the auction or I will relist. Balance in cash in person or cashiers check via express mail within 3 business days of close of auction. I will assist in shipping this nice Scout anywhere in the US. I will add photos over the next few daysI am the second owner after it was restored by a very talented auto restorer who knows and loves Scouts. I can’t promise you. but I’m guessing he would be available to answer any questions that I can’t. I bought for light cruising around my area and have to sell it sooner than I expected because I’m moving out west and have 2 other vintage vehicles (and our family car!) to ship out west.
