Description of 1987 Porsche 944 S

Up for sale is my 1987 Porsche 944S. I've owned this car for 22 years. I have too many vehicles and I don't drive this one much any more. I hate to sell it.It's a very nice car, andles like a dream, nd is the highly sought after dual cam 16 valve "S" model. More power than the non S, ut cheaper to insure than the Turbo. Has Anti-lock brakes and possibly the limited slip option (not sure but seems like it when I'd back up the wet slippery driveway at my old house). Best handling car I've ever owned.

The Good:

Looks nice, uns and drives. Was my daily driver but stopped driving it as the area where I work changed and I didn't like parking it there or driving it on the rough Milwaukee roads. Also it had developed a fuel leak. I justreplaced the leaking fuel pump with a new one, ave been driving it towork last few days. Good brakes (4 wheel disc, ual piston calipers in front, osch Antilock). Factory Blaupunkt Vancouver Radio/Cassette works well, ir Conditioning works, ower Windows, ruise works, og lights work, un roof works. Tires have decent tread. Factory jack, ollapsible spare and tool kit included. Headlights pop up just fine. Factory Alarm works. Wipers, asher, ruise control, orn all work. New Die Hard battery installed this past spring.

The Bad:

Paint is not perfect, as some flaws, ypical cracks in dash, eather peeling from shift knob. Tear in driver's seat (see pictures). Speedometer works but Odometer stopped working a few tankfuls ago. (I keep a mileage/record book so it is documented). Oil gauge needlebounces a bit. It's been like that ever since I have owned it. I had the sending unit changed but it didn't help. It does show pressure though. Some carpet stains. Gear shift pattern seems loose, een like that ever since I've owned it. Fuel gauge works intermittently. Cooling fans are a little erratic, ometimes they come on when not hot or relay chatters. Could be the relay or the temperature sending unit. Hinge on plastic piece that removable sunroof slides into has break in left side hinge. Not noticeable when sunroof is in. AC switch fell apart so a toggle switch now operates AC compressor and auxiliary fan. Like most 944's, he clock LCD display went bad. I bought a replacement LCD kit but never installed it, 'll give it to the buyer if desired. Rear hatch lock doesn't work. It is currently not installed, ut I have the originalpieces (small pot metal piece is broken, ot built to last). I never got around to finding a replacement, ut the inside release switch operates it just fine. Passenger side outside door handle is a bit tight to operate, orks but you must push hard on the trigger, ouldneed lubed or eventually replaced(worn pot metal trigger istypical on German cars). I replaced the gas lifters on the hood years ago but they need replaced again for it to stay open. That's all I can think of. Feel free to ask questions.

Not perfect, ut overall a good looking and good running car for its age! I've seen much worse! I've seen low mileage mint ones too, ut priced much higher.I'm starting the bid with no reserve! It could be restored to perfection or just enjoyed as-is.

Cash, ayPal, r escrow (payment released when you or your shipper picks up car) accepted. Too many fake bank checks these days. No scammers please.

For the 1987 model year, he 944S "Super" was introduced. The 944S featured a high performance normally aspirated, ual-overhead-cam 16-valve 190PS (140kW; 187hp) version of the 2.5L engine (M44/40) featuring a self-adjusting timing belt tensioner. This marked the first use of four-valve-per-cylinder heads and DOHC in the 944 series, erived from the 928S4 featuring a redesigned camshaft drive, magnesium intake tract/passages, agnesium valve cover, arger capacity oil sump, nd revised exhaust system. The alternator capacity was 115 amps. The wheel bearings were also strengthened and the brake servo action was made more powerful. Floating 944 calipers were standard, ut the rear wheel brake circuit pressure regulator from the 944 turbo was used. Small '16 Ventiler' script badges were added on the sides in front of the body protection mouldings. Performance was quoted as 0 - 100km/h (62mph) in 6.5 seconds (Best) and a 232km/h (144mph) top speed due to a 2857lb weight. It also featured an improved programmed Bosch Digital Motronic 2 Computer/DME with dual knock sensors for improved fuel performance for the higher 10.9:1 compression ratio cylinder head. Like the 944 Turbo, he 944S received progressive springs for greater handling, arger front and rear anti-roll bars, evised transmission and gearing to better suit the 2.5L DOHC higher 6800 rpm rev limit. Dual safety air bags, imited-slip differential, nd ABS braking system were optional on the 944S.

A Club Sport touring package (M637) was available as was the lightweight 16 inch CS/Sport Fuch 16x7 and 16x9 forged alloy wheels. This SC version car was raced in Canada, urope and in the U.S. IMSA Firehawk Cup Series. Production was only during 1987 and 1988. It was superseded in 1989 by the 'S2' 944 edition. The 1987 944S power-to-weight ratio was such that it was able to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 6.5 seconds thus matching the acceleration of its newer larger displacement 3.0L 944S2 sibling.
