Description of 1987 Porsche 944 S |
Up for sale is my 1987 Porsche 944S. I've owned this car for 22 years. I have too many vehicles and I don't drive this one much any more. I hate to sell it, nd am not desperate to do so, ut have listed it with an extremely attractive opening bid. I'd keep the car sooner than sell it below the opening bid, uthave no problem selling itat the opening bid price if that's what it sells for...as long as the buyer is serious and not looking to pick apart the car and try to lower the price after auction's end. I've seen folk pay more for a lotworse Porsches, nd if you are out to flip it and cannot make enough if paying $2495, t is not my concern. I'd prefer to sell it to someone who wants it for themselves. It's a very nice car, andles like a dream, nd is the highly sought after dual cam 16 valve "S" model. More power than the non S, ut cheaper to insure than the Turbo. Has Anti-lock brakes andthe highly sought afterlimited slip option. Best handling car I've ever owned. I strongly encourage you to come see it prior to bidding if you are within driving distance. I think you'll like it. I had someone win the auction previously, nly to request more pictures because there is reflection in the ones posted. They were unwilling to drive 1.5 hours to see it. The paint is shiny, hiny paint reflects, ot much I can do about that. If you need more pictures, lease ask prior to the end of the auctionand before bidding. The Good: Looks nice, uns and drives. It was my summerdaily driver to workbut I stopped driving it muchas the area where I work changed and I didn't like parking it there or driving it on the rough Milwaukee roads. Also it had developed a fuel leak. I justreplaced the leaking fuel pump with a new one, ave been driving it towork last few days. Good brakes (4 wheel disc, ual piston calipers in front, osch Antilock). Factory Blaupunkt Vancouver Radio/Cassette works well, ven plays cassettes! Air Conditioning works well, lows COLD air!!!! Power Windows, ruise works, og lights work, un roof works. Tires have decent tread. Factory jack, ollapsible spare and tool kit included. Headlights pop up just fine. Factory Alarm works. Wipers, asher, ruise control, orn all work. New Die Hard battery installed this past spring. Opening bid, nly $2495! Option codes: C77 DE5 018 220 474 533 593 650 946 see picture of option code sticker. The Bad: Paint is not perfect, as some flaws, ouple of runs, aintghosting, asn't wet sanded after repaint, ut looks good as a daily driver. If you want a show car, his is not it, o spend $10,000, ypical cracks in dash, eather peeling from shift knob. Tear in driver's seat (see pictures). Speedometer works but odometer stopped working a few tankfuls ago. One guy who owns 3 of these 944's told me this is common as a gear starts slipping. I know my brother sent his speedometer out for repair for the same issue when he had an 85 1/2 944.(I keep a mileage/record book so it is documented when it stopped). Oil gauge is a little erratic. It's been like that ever since I have owned it. I had the (leaking)sending unit changed but it didn't help, o it must be the gauge. It doesindicate pressure though. Some nasty carpet stains. Gear shift pattern seems loose, een like that ever since I've owned it. Fuel gauge didn't work after being stored all winter, ut has started working and has been working ever since. Cooling fans are a little erratic, ometimes they come on when not hot or relay chatters when hot. Could be the relay or the temperature sending unit. Hinge on plastic piece that removable sunroof slides into has break in left side hinge. Not noticeable when sunroof is in. AC switch fell apart so a toggle switch now operates AC compressor and auxiliary fan. Like most 944's, he clock LCD display went bad. I bought a replacement LCD kit but never installed it, 'll include it with the car. Rear hatch lock doesn't work. It is currently not installed, ut I have the originalpieces (small pot metal piece is broken, ot built to last). I never got around to finding a replacement, ut the inside release switch operates it just fine. Passenger side outside door handle is a bit tight to operate, orks but you must push hard on the trigger, ouldneed lubed or eventually replaced(worn pot metal trigger istypical on German cars). I replaced the gas lifters on the hood years ago but they need replaced again for it to stay open. Rear hatch lifters work in warm weather, ut not cold. That's all I can think of. I've given an honest detailed description in order to avoid any disappointments. I know I hate it whensellers don't want to "scare away" buyers and then you go to look at it orpick up the car and it is a disappointment. I don't want that so I've spelled out eachimperfection that I am aware of.Feel free to ask questions. Not perfect, ut overall a good looking and good running car for its age! I've seen much worse! I've seen low mileage mint ones too, ut priced much higher.I'm starting the bid with no reserve! It could be restored to perfection or just enjoyed as-is. Some have asked if the clutch has everbeen replaced, don't know, ot in the time I have owned it. I did change the timing, alance shaft belts, ollers and water pump once since I've owned it, bout 46,000 miles ago. I changed the pads on the tensioner and guideof the dual cam chain a few years ago. I do have a folder full of receipts for parts and service since I have owned the car, s well as a mileagenotebook showing all gas fill ups, dometer reading and dates since I've owned the car. The original wheels were 16" flat style Porschelike what is on it, ut painted silver (over the original silver paint). They had some curb damage and one rear one was bent to the point of not wanting to hold air (thanks to north side Milwaukee road conditions) so I bought the set that is currently on it off eBay. They are the same style and size. They are nice and straight, ut were painted grey. They are now painted semi-gloss black as in the pictures. I have the original wheels if you want them. The original finish Porsche used on these wheels was silver paint, ot chrome. Purists might want to refinish them, ut I like the modern look of the black wheels. Lug nuts are the original lightweight magnesium. The locking ones are missing the plastic lock inserts. Cash, ayPal, r escrow (payment released when you or your shipper picks up car) accepted. Too many fake bank checks these days. No scammers please. For the 1987 model year, he 944S "Super" was introduced. The 944S featured a high performance normally aspirated, ual-overhead-cam 16-valve 190PS (140kW; 187hp) version of the 2.5L engine (M44/40) featuring a self-adjusting timing belt tensioner. This marked the first use of four-valve-per-cylinder heads and DOHC in the 944 series, erived from the 928S4 featuring a redesigned camshaft drive, magnesium intake tract/passages, agnesium valve cover, arger capacity oil sump, nd revised exhaust system. The alternator capacity was 115 amps. The wheel bearings were also strengthened and the brake servo action was made more powerful. Floating 944 calipers were standard, ut the rear wheel brake circuit pressure regulator from the 944 turbo was used. Small '16 Ventiler' script badges were added on the sides in front of the body protection mouldings. Performance was quoted as 0 — 100km/h (62mph) in 6.5 seconds (Best) and a 232km/h (144mph) top speed due to a 2857lb weight. It also featured an improved programmed Bosch Digital Motronic 2 Computer/DME with dual knock sensors for improved fuel performance for the higher 10.9:1 compression ratio cylinder head. Like the 944 Turbo, he 944S received progressive springs for greater handling, arger front and rear anti-roll bars, evised transmission and gearing to better suit the 2.5L DOHC higher 6800 rpm rev limit. Dual safety air bags, imited-slip differential, nd ABS braking system were optional on the 944S. NOTE: NO de@dbe@tbidders please!!! Contact me first if you have below 5 feed back. If you have any questions or concerns about the car, lease ask BEFORE bidding, s I do not wish to pay the seller fees for a car that did not sell. Feel free to come and look at the car prior to bidding or to have a car inspection service come look at the car. WHEN YOU BID, OU ARE ENTERING INTO A BINDING CONTRACT...if you don't know that, ou probably should not be on eBay! If you don't have the money, ife doesn't approve, on't bid. If you want to offer an interesting trade, ontact me, on't bid until I approve it. If you want to bid with the idea of beating me down on price later, on't bid. I am advertising this car locally and reserve the right to end this auction early if it sells. |
