Description of 1979 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Karmann |
This is a car I have owned for the last twenty years and have kept in great shape. It has been kept in a garage and has a very clean underside with only one rust spot under the battery tray. I have a full twenty years worth of receipts that document all the service history. It has a rebuilt 1776cc engine with dual Weber 40mm carbs, Empi 75 amp alternator, Empi Big Bore Heads, Engle 110 cam, counter balanced 69mm crankshaft, Empi 32mm high volume oil pump with filter attached, Empi external 72 pass oil cooler with temperature controlled electric fan, Scat 1.5 qt. extended sump, and Pertronix electronic ignition. The transaxle was also rebuilt and strengthened with the use of the Super Differencial to divide the extra torque amongst two additional spider gears, earlier model 3rd and 4th gears with thicker gear teeth to also handle the extra torque with 4th gear a freeway flyer to reduce engine rpm's on the freeway. A reinforcing plate between the transaxle nosecone and case were added to prevent main bearing movement. The clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and shifter bushings were also replaced as part of the rebuild along with replacing and repacking the cv joint boots. The front end was rebuilt with Bilstein struts, Topline Sport+ Coil Springs, Empi Strut Tie Bar, Topline heavy duty front sway bar for 1 inch drop, new ball joints, and new silicon bushings. The rear shocks were replaced with Bilstein shocks and a Topline rear sway bar with silicon bushings. When I replaced the brakes I put on new drums, new wheel cylinders, hoses, shoes, and hardware along with a new master cylinder. The convertible top, padding, headliner, and seals were also replaced. The passenger side quarter window no longer rolls up with the handle since the window lift channel corroded, but I am including a new window lift channel and seal in the purchase. If your wondering why there's an opening cut into the firewall seen from the trunk, it was for the original air conditioning unit which I do have. I removed the air conditioning since it didn't work and I needed the room in the engine compartment for the twin carbs. I did try to keep all the original parts I removed including the original engine that needed a rebuild. I'm sure you can see this car has been well maintained and well cared for. The paint shines, it wins lots of awards, and really drives good. This isn't a one owner, low mileage car that's been stored for years. It's been driven and enjoyed, but kept looking nice and running great. The additional acceleration and torque of the 1776cc engine along with the stiffer handling makes this car funto drive. |
