Description of 1971 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon camper |
1971 VW Camper Van As you may know, this is the last year of the classic "doghouse" dual-port engined vans. It is the first year to have front disc brakes. It has the solid top with a removable sunroof. I greatly prefer this model over the pop tops. Consider that they do not have leak-prone seals and have more aerodynamic/aesthetically pleasing lines. Nice enough to be greatly appreciated at automotive events, but also a very practical everyday vehicle. Rebuilt engine with about 15K by All VW of Mountain View, California. It has a rebuilt transaxle with about 14K miles on it. German Transaxle of Bend Oregon did the rebuild. Installed by D&M Automotive of Portland, Oregon. Newer oversized brake vacuum booster & master cylinder New carburetor Alternator New late model VW Electronic ignition & MSD Coil Newer fuel pump Seats and bed reupholstered in heavy-duty marine fabric New upholstery fabric curtains Battery direct starter switch obviates the ubiquitous starter solenoid issue KYB Shocks Very comfortable bed All glass is good Side louvers CD player/radio with front and rear speakers LED accessory lighting H4 headlights Mounted fire extinguisher Relocated ignition switch and horn button New windshield and seal Front mounted spare with new cover Very presentable paint Flanged exhaust Good tires New battery Larger capacity sump with fine mesh filter Valves have just been adjusted and oil changed Rust: Minimal rust. California/Oregon/Washington vehicle. Front floorboards repaired and rustproofed minor blistering on rocker panels and along rain gutters New heavy-duty battery support Extras/Spares: Quick & Easy Roof Rack included Extra rebuilt transaxle included Issues: Drivers door locks but not from outside Stock dome light needs attention/repair After market temperature gauge not working Running strong and ready to hit the road in style.Selling with some reluctance, as is usually the case with those who have experienced these vehicles.I really have too many cars. Be ready for the constant approbation you will receive in this iconic ride. Finally, as a camping vehicle, and as Leonardo suggests, "The ultimate sophistication is simplicity." |
