Description of 1976 GMC Sierra 2500 Sierra

***This is a 7-day auction, ending Sunday night. I do not have a buy it now listed, but will consider any serious offers. I reserve the right to end the auction early at any time***
For sale: Original survivor 1976 GMC High Sierra Camper Special 3/4 ton with factory 454 and A/C. Two documented owners from 1976-2020. Original owner used it as a dedicated camping and fishing rig for trips to nearby Yellowstone and Glacier national parks. Truck was special ordered new at Grimes Motors by a local policeman and WWII veteran, he was US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater of WWII and fought at Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and Guam. After the war he was a well-respected police officer for many years, and upon his passing in 2004 the truck went to his best friend, who I knew well. I purchased the truck from the 2nd owner's estate. Documentation includes original order form, warranty card, SPID tag, manual, and sales brochure. Factory chalk marks still present, original jack and tools under the hood and factory spare still in the under-bed carrier. Truck even has both original Power Beam headlights. and the original keys. "Day two" additions include fog and driving lights, 8-track player, box side step, and Cal-Custom programmable horn. I'll do my best to describe this special truck below, please see the Photobucket album with 130+ detailed pics including undercarriage and the YouTube walk around and start up video.

Exterior: Original paint (except tailgate, which has been replaced) with nice patina. Still shines and looks good overall, paint is thin/gone on hood, roof, and along right box rail. There are plugged holes in hood, front fenders, and along box sides where a boat carrier was once mounted, and hole in windshield pillar from a spot light. Overall very straight truck with a few dings - the hood isn't even bowed, the original owner put brace bars underneath back in the day. There is a crease behind left rear wheel from a gas station post, as shown in pics. The first owner removed the rib at the front of the box to clear his camper, and also the back of the cab is dented from same. I pulled canopy back and took pics of those areas, see Photobucket album below. Very dry truck, I think midwest folks will be astounded. I've looked it over, and exterior rust appears limited to a small spot at bottom of right side cab corner, and another above right side exhaust pipe on box. There are some pencil tip blisters on the front of the hood that don't really show up in pics. Surface rust on box floor under the mat, no holes that I can see. Underside is exceptionally clean with cab mounts, cab supports and dropoffs all very nice. Floors look good from underneath. There is a hole at the bottom of the apron under the battery tray. Some surface discoloration on frame and bare metal components, but of course we don't see frame rot here out west. I don't think this truck ever saw salted roads. Topper/canopy is only in fair condition, it was painted with a roller at some point and has dents on the back door. Check the detail pics in the referenced Photobucket album below.

Interior: Mostly original and looks nice. There are cracks in the dash pad under the cover. Glass is good including windshield. Seat has been reupholstered and is in very good condition. Original carpet looks decent, it is worn at driver foot well, and factory headliner is starting to sag. I believe most everything works, gauges, lights, heater, wipers, parking brake, etc. Radio is non-op and 8 track doesn't play. Clean driver truck that's ready to use.

Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out fine. Original 454 runs smooth with no smoke, noises, or leaks. Truck has a nice tight feel and it was well-maintained, whatever it needed it got. Fuel tank selector valve is currently sticking, runs fine off left tank but won't reliably switch to the right tank. Will need to clean the valve or replace it. A/C components are all in place as far as I can see, one hose was cut. An NOS replacement hose will be included. I believe most everything works, gauges, lights, heater, wipers, parking brake, etc. One fog lamp is broken out under the KC cover. Radio is non-op and 8 track doesn't play. As with any older vehicle, it will need maintenance and repairs along the way. If you live in a state with very strict vehicle inspections, they will no doubt find something for you to fix, so expect that. These trucks are noted for reliability and build quality, and are fairly simple to work on with good parts availability.
