1942 Lincoln Continental Coupe. CCCA National 1st Place. SEE VIDEO. Beautiful! 1942 Lincoln Continental Coupe. CCCA National First PlaceFor 1942. the Lincoln Continentals were redesigned to be longer. lower and wider than their predecessors. The styling also featured a sleeker. more squared fender treatment and bold horizontal grille design that was seen only on the 1942 models. A beautiful option was the gold interior accent package as seen on this car. The horn ring. instruments. speedometer and clock bezels. radio housing. door hardware. trim and dome light are among the gold plated items. It adds a beautiful touch to a stylish car. With the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7. 1941. and entry of the U. S. into World War II. production of all 1942 cars was halted in January. Thus. just 200 Continental Coupes were produced. This particular Continental was purchased by a prominent collector in the late 1960's. While in very good condition. he commissioned a full no-expense-spared restoration by Lincoln marque experts. Narragansett Restorations of Rhode Island to bring the car to concours show level. When the restoration was completed the car was shown at the National Lincoln Meet where it received the Ford Motor Company Award. being recognized as a benchmark example of a 1942 Continental. In later showings it received a National First Place award from the Classic Car Club of America and proudly wears its badge today. Over the following years it was shown and pampered. with the odometer now registering less than 500 miles. Some time ago the car moved to the collection of the current owner in the Pacific Northwest. He has refreshed the car with a complete renovation of the fuel system (removed gas tank. opened. cleaned and sealed with rebuilt sending unit). tuning of the V-12 engine (including rebuilding the carburetor) conversion of the brakes to DOT 5 silicone brake fluid. and many other small items to bring this car to top road condition. including the addition of new radial wide whitewall tires. The Lincoln V-12 runs beautifully with no issues. I have personally driven this car over 50 miles in city traffic and on the freeway and it performs wonderfully. The three-speed manual transmission shifts crisply and easily and the optional factory Borg Warner overdrive operates flawlessly. It is a joy to drive and easily keeps up with modern freeway traffic. The engine compartment is clean. correct and well detailed. as one would expect in a national award-winning car. Please see test drive video. The body is rust free and straight. Doors and panels line up nicely. The paint has a deep shine and shows well. with only a few small signs of lacquer aging. The chrome and brightwork are excellent. While an older restoration. it was done to such high quality that in my opinion it would still score in the 90's in CCCA judging. and would certainly qualify (or possibly be over-qualified) for Touring Class awards. The interior is lovely. The leather and Bedford cloth interior has softened nicely and compliments the rest of the car. There are no cracks or tears. The headliner shows signs of some age spotting near the edges. Carpet is excellent. as are the dashboard and instruments. Clock and radio work. Power windows work smooth and fast. All accessories. including the rear cigarette lighters. are present. Overall. this is a beautiful example of a rare and desireable Continental that can be shown and driven with pride.
